I am a Christian, I am centre right wing, want to be lawyer, have extremely conservative parents and have no earrings. But then the shocker I have long hair, and I dont feel at all ashamed of it!!
On the other hand you guys are simply paranoid about being persecuted. Why do you feel so threatened? You should be relaxing and enjoying the sure knowledge that you are superior than your shorter haired counterparts. Below are listed the reasons why you should feel superior:
a) Longer hair looks better. No doubt.
b) Shorter hair on men was only suitable when men went out to hunt and fight, short hair made sense then, but things have now moved on since then. The short haired men are behind the times
c) To deny men the right to long hair, is sexist. If a women tells you to cut your hair, agree that the world should return to the unenlightened rules of 1900 which would include removing womens right to vote.
d) Fashionable long hair on men stopped with the French revolution, a blood bath in which thousands were killed. French men cut their hair to get in with the new age and discard the old system. But hey these guys were murderers? Should we really use them as role models and imitate their hair style? (Ironically one of the aims of this revolution was equality!!)
e) To deny men the right to long hair is unchristian. The old testament is quite pro long hair, and Christ is often depicted with it. However a devout Christian told me that Saul disapproved, and said men should wear it short. Now I cant be bothered to read through all the rubbish Saul wrote to confirm this, but if thats all that some bigoted Christians have against us then laugh, because Saul is the very man who persecuted Christ. If he could wrongly persecute the Lord Almighty isnt there a chance he was wrongly persecuting men with long hair?
And if you really are persecuted dont give in. When Charles I of England was persecuted by the shorter haired Puritans, he kept his long hair, even though cutting it would have sent a more pro Puritan anti-ostentation image, and when he was sent to the block he wore a cap so that his hair would escape the axe blade! I hope this is some comfort to you.
Then let us all organise and fight back!
there should be no discrimination of any kind!
this is the 21 century!
Well argued Charles, but I wasn't referring to employment. I concede that in the context of financial gain prejudice is a serious problem, but not all employers are so unenlightened. Ok so you may loose a job or two, but if you are competent and hard working then there are other jobs out there, and you will probably be better off with employers who are more enlightened.
I also support you in the idea of fighting back, but lets not act like naughty school boys doing something they are ashamed of and know to be wrong. I am only saying that there is no need to feel that long hair is not "morally justifiable," which seems to be the feeling coming across on some arguments within this hyperboard.
I'd like to know what you being Christian has anything to do with this?
