My hair is straight, all one length about 3 inches below my shoulders. I've always wanted to try bangs and am considering getting my hair cut in bangs. What do you all think, is it a good idea, and is there alot of upkeep?
I have bangs and I like them. My hair is cut in a bob below my ears with bangs. They help me to hide some scars that I recieved from an auto accident on my forehead. Bangs will have to be trimed about every 3 to 6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows. Only draw back for some people is that if you get bangs and do not like them it takes them a while to grow back out.
Does your wife still object to your longer hair?
She has relented some. I still don't think that she would let me get the real bob that I want which is blunt cut chin length with no layers but I like the bob that I have which is below the ears with bangs and some long layering. Maybe someday though who knows.
I have always loved long bangs on a guy. I've been growing my hair out for about 9 months now Eventually I want a bob cut withlong bangs blunt cut. I bought a wig cut like this on line to try out the look, I love it!I has bangs just over my eyebrows and cut down to just below nipple length. Can't wait to get my own hair like this. For now I'm going to wear this out and see what reaction I get.
Go for it. I love my bob with bangs. I want to grow it longer like to chin length but most people around here would give me heck for having a girls style so I keep it just below my ears. Bobs have wonderful movement and versatility.
I never wore bangs so this is more in the realm of theory.
Once, many years ago, I saw a "tip" in a girls magazine that you could "test" the appearance of bangs by putting your hair in an elastic, as high on your head as necessary, and holding the ends in a "bangs position" on your forehead.
See if you like the look. Of course it will look more like an updo with bangs, than like a bob with bangs, but it may give you some guidance.
I don't know Gregg, You better really think this one out.
But if you really want bangs, I guess you should go for it.
What length of "bangs" are you considering...down to your eyebrows, below your eyes, etc. My hair hangs down to just below my nose and at this stage...it tickles my nose and isn't quit long enough to tuck behind my ears...so it is a pain to keep out of my face.
Probably just down to my eyebrows, or even a little above.
Yes, definitely. I wear bangs, and they are sexy and feminine. I get lots of great comments from girls and guys. The maintenance isn't too bad. Mine are just above my eyebrows now, and I am getting them cut Friday. I use a barrette when they get too long to pull them back. They look great! They are very feminine, though, so if you can't take that look, don't try them.
If you like the look go for it! You've already challenged the norm. Why not push the envelope?
Most guys are terrified to wear their hair long but you've already overcome that. So, why not wear it in a style that you like? If you're concerned about looking "feminine"--forget about it. A guy can wear most of the same hairstyles that women do today without appearing to feminine.
I say, GO FOR IT!!
As a woman who prefers long hair on men, I must say I'm rather disappointed that more men don't wear bangs. Men with long hair AND bangs are typical in Japanese Manga art, and I think that is VERY attractive. My husband has long hair (almost down to his waist) and bangs; actually, the long part is the whole back of his head with the front and sides a more conservative short "layered" look - it works well for him, because he has VERY THICK Asian hair and doesn't want the heat/weight of having all of it long.
Bangs just need trimming whenever they grow into your eyes and irritate you. Don't trim too short (ie: halfway between brow and hairline) because this looks like a bad 1960's home haircut.
See my message below - I should have changed the subject line to this.
Christine,
There was no message below. Anyway, I am a guy and I have my hair cut in a bob below my ears with bangs and the back stacked out. I love this bob style and the bangs. I am thinking about letting it grow a little longer. I was just wondering what you were going to say about guys with bangs.
I like hair in a natural way. Why not support it's natural beauty and growing? I think there are too much artificial influences determining the life, and bangs are not a natural way of hair growing. That doesn't mean that I want to suggest how people should look, it's only my subjective opinion and I try to follow it.
REPLY TO QUOTED MESSAGES FRON WOLFGANG AND BOBLOVER BELOW:
Wolfgang - re bangs: it's just a personal preference. I have had long hair most of my life myself, and have worn bangs for the last 15 years or so which I finally got cut because the long hair in the front kept physically bugging me and I got sick of tucking a lot behind my ears which kept falling out. I DO think bangs on men are way sexy. My husband wears them by HIS choice, though, not mine. (Had 'em when his hair was short, too.) Besides, isn't a trim to cut the "raggedys" also not natural? Neither are my earrings or glasses. I'm not trying to dictate here, just put in my tuppence worth on what I (and maybe others) like! ;) At any rate, I just think men should not shy away from bangs because of a perception that they are somehow "feminine" if coupled with long hair.

PS: EVERYONE always seems to have bangs in Manga art - obviously the Japanese think it looks great! (My husband wears a braid a lot, and looks like "Ranma Saotome" when he does that)

This is Boblover's reply to my "empty message with new subject line" referring people to my first posting listed under re: bangs:
Christine, I think it is okay if there are physically reasons for bangs not to loose the hair. I only argued against bangs why I know that the enthusiasm I saw here can not be generalized and in regards of my own feelings. As long as I can remember back I have admired long hair with or without bangs, but I always loved it more without bangs. I hate hair cuts and I love it long, also the parts that are in focus for bangs.
I agree that there are a lot of things that are not natural, like glasses, but I don't enjoy them, it's necessary for work. For earrings I have no feelings, I don't understand it. I don't have (had) problems to look feminine with long hair, I prefer it to partially shave my beard but let my hair grow.
Christine, I agree that men should not shy away from a style or bangs because of the feminine aspect. I practice both of those as I have my hair cut in a bob below my ears with bangs probably not unlike your daughters. Most people where I live probably think that both the bob style and bangs are feminine but I love the shape, versatility, and movement of my bob and I think it looks great. That is waht counts and far to many men today cave to societal stereotypes and go with the expected short styles even though they may want something else or may look better with some longer style. Not me. I love my bob.
