I have always in the past had to have short hair, due to a military career, but I am now in the process of letting it grow. I have always washed it every day. It is now almost collar length. Should I continue daily washings, or is there a time when I should start washing it less frequently?
Thanks for your advice,
Al
That's a question whose answer really depends upon the individual. I know of long haired people whose washing schedules range from twice a day to once every two weeks. I personally wash my hair once a day, occasionally skipping a day or half a day (sometimes I prefer washing at night, sometimes in the morning). My hair gets greasy quite quickly, so I have to wash it frequently or it starts looking bad.
What I've found out surprisingly recently is how important rinsing is. I think I may have developed some sensitivity to the shampoo/conditioners I use. Rinsing very thoroughly seems to help substantially. This thorough of a rinse is not possible in a bath, only in a shower.
Just do whatever is comfortable and keeps your hair looking good. If you can go for three days without developing an oil slick, go for it.
