I have seen a lot of guys on this board recommending Aussie Miracle so am trying that next. It does make a difference right away. My hair is very fragile and babyfine and does not grow fast, it's been ten years since I've cut it and it's only a bit below shoulder length. I need all the strengthening and "volumizing" I can get.
I talked about this to a couple of friends and they said they used to use Aussie Miracle's all the time when they had super long hair and also they had a few words on conditioners which I will pass on to you.
Don't put conditioner on your head: start it further down on your hair. Start about at the neck and some on the back but not deep, and then down. Lift your hair away from your head if you put it up higher than the neck so it doesn't get down to the scalp.
Or, if you put it all through your hair, leave it on for about 3-5 minutes, and then shampoo, don't condition after shampooing again.
Try this: Shampoo, rinse REALLY WELL and then that long again, then put conditioner on from the neck down, and just lightly over the surface above, don't let it get down underneath. And then once a week or so, use a deep conditioner BEFORE shampooing and don't condition again after.
Another good tip was, if you can wear a hat or just not go out, don't wash your hair one day a week, go 48 hours without it, because although it looks bad in our culture, natural hair oils are the best "conditioner" for the scalp and hair right at the scalp. Try at least once a week to actually wait till it really needs washing.
And the usual: Never use a brush on wet hair, only a really large-toothed comb if you have to comb wet hair at all..use said comb instead of brush as much as possible (depending on style) when hair is dry also.. Shampoo-conditioners are evil. They counteract each other so neither one can fully work. And get small trims. But it's hard to find someone who can do good 1/8 inch trims instead of "oh I just took off an inch". Bleah!
