This week I was taking some workshops and twice got to sit next to the same person. He's a really cool guy. Not quite the hippy look, but a total environmentalist and into wellness, all-natural stuff, etc. (So am I, but not as hard core as he is).
Anyways, I got to thinking he had the "granola look" with a mop of hair just getting near the end of the awkward phase and designer stubble. He's about 28 and says thinks "thanks bro" and "all right man." I could so picture him in a plaid shirt, Oakley or chrome sunglasses and a snowboard going out west (and I mean that as a compliment). "Granola" was the first word that popped into my head. But is that what "granola" really means? Can't seem to find a difinitive answer on that. How would you describle the granola look, like I have, or something different? And is the hair the main thing, or is it a "sum of all the parts?"
He's really laid back and easy going. He's a vegetarian (so am I) and he's the only other veggie I've met in this town. Oh, and he doesn't own a car. He owns a 24 passenger bus. I think he has plans to turn it into a "peace"-mobile with advertising for a wellness directory he's publishing.
Not sure what his hair growth goals are - I don't know him well enough to ask. But if I were to describe him in one word, I'd say "granola." Do you think that's accurate?
YAY vego here too what kind are you? yunno like strict vegie lactose eggs?
i do lactose from certain sources but not eggs BTW
its nice to see another vegie on the board!!!!!
(hopefully this doesent turn into an "im more veggie than you" thread because of me :p)
sounds like my cousin shaggin wagin and all!!!!
i like the look and the attitude that the type of person you described have....Great people usually
Yeah, a while back, when I first found this board, I think there was a thread on vegetarianism. As I recall, there were quite a few members who were vegetarian or vegan. Myself, I guess you could say I'm a strict vegetarian (almost vegan but not quite). Never liked eggs my whole life (in fact, the sight and smell of them have always repulsed me). No dairy either - I'm lactose intolerant anyways. Unless these products are an ingredient in bread or something, I never touch them. So yeah, no dairy, no eggs, no fish, no chicken, no meat. Never much enjoyed any of those things anyways when I was a kid and forced to eat them. I think it was just meant to be that I'd be a veggie.
And yeah, that guy I was describing seems like a great person. Hope I can get to know him better. He lives fairly close to me too.
i just saw a music clip on tv by a band called "the mgic numbers" and i think im mad but the leadsinger looked like your avatar.....he had long hair BTW :)
Cool! When I had short hair, and was in better shape, a lot of people thought I looked like one of the singers from the group "The Barenaked Ladies" (especially on my ID card from uni).
Oh, btw: that guy I was describing is a musician too. He's making drums himself now, and he went to India to learn how to play an instrument (sitra maybe)? I figured all you musicians would be impressed! :)
impressed i am!!!! thats not as easy instrument to play!!! and makeing drums especially (if i am cirrect in thinking) without the use of animal hide!!!!
I went over to his place today for a vegetarian pot luck lunch - very nice! He showed me his sitra (sp?) and his photo album. He's quite a good photographer too. I like to dabble in photography, but he's way better. Then I saw pics of him and HE USED TO HAVE LONG HAIR!!! Yes, I knew it! He voluntarily cut it off when he was in India as part of a spiritual cleansing. But he's growing it back now, though it won't be as long (it used to be about mid back), and he's had long hair most of his life.
not bein rude, but where you talking about a "sitar"?
ive always had a secret yearning to get dreads and go alternative!! my aunt is so i guess thats where i got the idea from. her house is really great its in the middle of the Aussie bush and its made completely out of mud brick and natural wood!!!! (exept for the bathroom and the tin roof) although the house has 6 rooms and and the indoors wood is polished its comfy as. it sounds primitive but its more like one of those holiday challets you can stay in at ski resorts type of thing!!!!!
they live in the bush about 1/2 and hour out of town and about 1/4 an hour away from neibors (driveing that is) and the coolest thing is when someone new movves into the area the whole community gets together (with the help of an architect and tradesmen where its illegal for thw public) to build the house!!!!
Nice to see ur vego too Ardroth!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, you're right - it's a sitar. I forgot the exact name. Very nice instrument indeed.
I've thought of dreads too, only I don't think they'd look right on me. Wrong face and type of hair. Plus if I ever changed my mind about them, probably have to cut my hair and start over. But they are pretty cool looking. Plus, with me looking for office work in a conservative city, I'm pushing my luck with a ponytail - dreads, as cool as they are, probably wouldn't go over very well with a lot of companies around here. I think they'd look good on you though, and if you can do it, you should. About your aunt's place - sounds neat. It sounds primative, but it also sounds a bit like the place my grandparents had when they came to Canada in the 1940s, outside of a very small village. But by the 1950s they had moved to a typical modern (for the time) house.
yea thats my only worry....i havent been bald b4 and i dont plan on being it...the main problem i can see is dreads seem to make your hair "bigger" and im rather skinny so i was thinking i might look rather strange with a really big head...check out brian fair...........
http://www.ibanez.com/ozzfest/sf_interview.asp
this is a movie interview but you would only need to buffer the first like 1 or 2% to get a sideshot of his dreads to see what im talking bout with the "bigness"
either way im gonna wait till my hairs well....long till i can get them.....anyways tell me if u think i should go dreds (hmm perhaps i should make this a seperate post...oh well :p)
I think my hair's just thin in general, so hopefully no baldness for a while! I checked out that video, he's got a nice head of hair. The dreads suit him and his personality. He must have REALLY long hair, especially since it's in dreads and still so long.
The only member I can think of here who has dreads is ThatBallGuy who hasn't posted for a while. But yeah, I think you should start a new thread on this to see what others think of dreads for you.
I'll bet you are a blood type B N/T
im intrigued.....can you tell me more about this bloodtype thing? im a/b btw
Personality typing by blood type is Asia's version of the horoscope. It's very popular in Japan and Korea.

There's a book called "Eat Right for our Blood Type" but it's rather controvertial and IMHO not necessarily correct. It pegs me as the ideal meat eater, based on my blood type (I forget what it's called), but anyways, I've been vegetarian - in fact near vegan - for years and I'm fine. The thought of eating meat, fish, chicken, eggs, dairy makes me feel sick, never enjoyed them - my whole life. Don't even like smelling them.
Nice, good to see some other Vegetarians on the board!
I'd say "granola" refers to your typical granola munching, clove smokin', sandal wearing, dreadlocked, laid back, hairy, tye-dyed hippie...
-Ardroth
You too? Right on! I thought you might be a veggie. :)
And yeah, that description suits him quite well, except for the dreadlocks. Not sure about sandles (being winter and all), and tye-dye (haven't seen any tye-dyed clothes yet, but doesn't mean he hasn't any).
