Hey all!!!
im thinking of getting my hair in dreads when its long enough and am wondering your opinions on them!!!
my main worry is that if they dont look good on me, ive heard id have to go bald to get rid of them!!!!!. also im worried they wont suit me because im fairly skinny and from what i see dreads make your hair bigger and tthat might look funny to have a skinny dood with a huge head of hair!!!!
to get an idea of what i mean heres one of my inspirations for long hair, Brian Fair

its a video but you only have to let the first 2-3% buffer to get a sideshot of his hair to get an idea of what i mean by "big hair"
any insight would be welcome
i included a pic of me for reference!!!
thanks all :)
I believe that you are correct to say that the ONLY way of getting rid of dreads is to shave them off....
That seems a hell of a gamble after the trouble of growing out for two years...
thats why im trying to get imfo.....besides ive still got 1 and a half years to think abouut it
Just checked that website Gary Britton mentioned and it states that you can remove dreadlocks with minimal cutting or even no cutting at all - although it is rather time consuming.
Nice to know in case I ever decide to go for dreadlocks. Although I don't think I have the right face or personality for it, and I have to stay reasonably conservative looking in an office setting in a conservative city - a ponytail is already pushing my luck.
Well, it isn't correct.
You can easily come out of the deal with something like 10-15cm of hair. (I did this)
If you're patient you can undread your entire hair (I've seen it done several times) but it will be quite damaged.
ahh thats nice to know.........how damaged will it come out? too damaged to keep growing long?
why did you go back on your dreads?
Well, one of the people I know who did it had to make maintenance cuts to cut off the damage. In spite of the damage it still looked really good.
They were unraveling and whatnot and didn't look good at all in the end.
aww thats a shame :(
I found this site some time ago. It has answers to common questions about dreadlocks. Including how to make them and remove them. Hope it helps.

Dunno what to say man but its your choice at the end of the day Im not going to commit myself and tell you either way should u have dreads or not haha you decide its your hair not mine !

Personally i don't think dread locks would suit you. You have pretty straight hair and i think you could grow a nice head of shoulder length hair(or longer) that will look "cool" and "rocky" and your parents won't mind. Dreads are most suited for earthy, natural, laid back kind of people. Well that is my general observation anyways. Whatever you do it is your decision in the end.
good advice as always 80's thanks!!!!!
ill keep that in mind

i say go for it. What i would do, if your worried about being skinny, do some weight lifting. Build you're body to be bigger while you're waiting for your hair to grow.
just a thought:)
