If the picture has worked- it shows 20 months of continous growth. In my opinion (and alot of other peoples too), it could with a "tidy-up". I'm a little nervous about getting it done though- not least because I'm not sure what I'm asking for
Before I started growing long- i used to go to the nearest barber, hand him a tenner, and 10 minutes later I'd virtually have no hair left. Thats not what I want now!
I want something that tidys up the ends, evens it out, and make it look good. Is there a technical hair-jargon phrase for that?
Oh, and I live in the UK (Bradford- I Study there)..so it would have to be something that an English hair-dresser would understand!
Thankyou- William
This can be very dificult to say THE LEAST! You have some nice loking hair which you should take very great care of.
You know what you want, but even simple words fail to communicate it to some who think that they no best!
Firstly you need to ask about - do you have any friends who have had the same issue? If not then maybe ask some girls you know where they gp fequently find somewhere 'friendly' to long hairs that way. You certainly will not be going anywhere near a barber - they seem to think hair is there to cut despite what their client has to say to the contrary.
First step is to go in and talk to the stylist before making any commitment to let them touch your hair. Assuming that all you are after is the ends I would suggest you state quite clearly that you just want a 1/4" taking off the ends and make the person show you precisely how they are doing this. Take a ruler to make the point. If you look at Jason's post below you will see how Bruce Gallagher (Boston Mass. unfortunately) has made an excellent job of his hair. In fact you could do worse than to print Jason's photographs of the rear and take those with you to demosntrate the look you want.
Good luck - don't be afraid to walk out of the first one you choose if the person does not give you confidence that he or shee understands.
The only "messiness" I detect in your photos is due to the hair resting on your shoulders and back because it's too short. More length will give it weight and clearance to hang more nicely. I'd give it another couple of inches before thinking about trims.
Yeah I don't think you should get a trim yet either.
Hi William, your hair looks good. Right now, I do not see that a trim is necessary. Be patient, with another 4 to 6 inches of length, it will look a lot better than it does now.

I like your Marley Poster.
"Me only have one ambition, y'know. I only have one thing I really like to see happen. I like to see mankind live together - black, white, Chinese, everyone - that's all."

i did it- hope the picture works. the stylist said that the ends were really dry as well (I do condition though).
Im much happier with it now- especially as I'm not planning to go much longer......for now at least
(ps- The two pictures look so different because of the different lighting arrangements I was experimenting with!)
