don't know how many of you wear hair sticks, but i had a freaky thing happen to me this morning. i put my hair in a bun with my new wooden hair stick and when i got out of the car i hit the top of the hair stick against the door frame which drove the pointed end into my neck, breaking off the end of the hair stick and stabbing me in the neck with the broken wood!!
point of story: make sure your hair sticks are made of non-breakable material and don't forget that you're wearing them!!
Ouch dude!
So you actually wear hair sticks with a bun in public?
I don't think i could ever summon enough courage to wear a feminine style such as that.
Well, at least it didn't actually stab far into your neck.. yeah, be careful with those.
I put my hair in a high sloppy bun around the house.. I never go anywhere with my hair in anything but a ponytail.
80s_Metal, a lot of women don't have enough hair to put up. :-D Hairsticks are a long hair style, not a female one. I'd even say relegating hairsticks to a girly item label is a realtively modern idea for such a practical and simple tool used by long haired men for ages. Now stick choice can lean pretty stereotypically feminine if somebody goes for sparkles and pink feathers but there are plainer options than that.
Randy, I'm glad you didn't get punctured!

Those things are dangerous! I was in a crowded nightclub one night when a girl turned around suddenly and her damn hair stick went up my nose! Could have pulled my brain out!
Of course, technically, she was just going to scrunch your brain up if it didn't have a topper hooking into anything up there.
Hmm, I have never had hairsticks confiscated at the airport but I wonder if they could do a bit of damage forced up the nose. My knowledge in this area is more from ancient Egyptian history and warning by mother to her kid side of things than biology. If there is a risk, a pencil would do as much damage I suppose.
Unintentionally meandering myself onto a no-fly list as a risky passenger,

The 'pulled my brain out' bit was inspired by that element of the Egyptian mummification process. I'm very interested in ancient history.
Hmm, I heard about a little old lady who had her knitting needles confiscated. Apparently they were afraid she was going to knit an Afghan.
