I have a lot of hair strands that are of different length, you think this looks like split ends?
And also i think the ends look a little ratty right now, i hope they will even itself out out after a few months of growth.
Maybe i should get a trim, what'ya think?
Pat thanks for the great web site. Think every longhaired should read.
No, it doesn't look like split ends.
It is only because hair is "naturally layered" as it grows out from a buzz or other ordinary cut/style; hence the "flippy" ends.
Get a trim?...no, I don't think that is necessary at this point...maybe in eight to ten months. For now, let it grow...

Agreed - doesnt look like split ends, but is quite hard to tell unless you have a real close up pic. I'm also suffering from the dreaded flips at the moment *sigh*.
BRGalllagher - I have wondered for a while now whether you used to be a longhair?

...I must admit that I have had the same hairgrowth pattern you see in my current photo since my early twenties so by the time the Beatles arrived on the scene, it was too late for me to become a longhair in reality...but I am definitely a longhair at heart. Additionally, as a men's hair stylist and personal image consultant, I advocate long(er) hair from a very practical perspective: it keeps a guy from getting locked into a "one-dimensional image". Long(er) hair enables choices and maximization of image potential. If you've got it, grow it!

Without doubt, with your expertise, you, yourself, could very well, if decided upon to engage in growing your hair, arrive at a very striking and attractive long to longer style of your very own, yet all the while remaining very well groomed and professional in appearance. It might very well inspire both older and younger men, their coarsing blood full with dihydrotestosterone, to embark on hair-journeys of their own without reproach.
Bruce, you should go for it!
You could always shoot for terminal length beard! That would be pretty cool.

Good idea!

What a wonderful answer - and thats why your such an asset to this comunity! As you say, you promote long hair with makes you a real inspiration to others - dont let your hairgrowth pattern hold you back, you could always grow a ZZ-Top beard!

Best advice from a longhair friendly stylist you will get on here.

Like BRgallagher said, probably not for another year. Those "flips" are friggin' annoying, but that's part of the hardships and challenge of growing your hair... no one said it's easy. I don't think you have Split ends... it's pretty hard to "see" split ends unless you pull the individual hairs close to your eye.

dont think that these are split ends ...
this flips are normal for that length - i also had them when i was at that length ...
they will go away or reduced if your hair is longer ...
the flips will be defeated by the force of gravitation if your hair gets longer - your hair is on the way too look really good !
nope - try to gain length - your hair looks really good (in my opinion) ...
greez,

Looks like my hair and as far as i can tell i dont have splits.
My flips seem finally to be starting to fade (damn only took almost 17 months) but that could be cause ive changed the way i wash my hair as an experiement and it seems to be working.
