There is a part of me that is really curious where my terminal length is. I might just go for it although I know my hair is still relatively short now so I could change my mind.
How many here have attained terminal? How long was it? Did you keep it there? How many here are thinking of trying for terminal length if they've never had it that long?
If I do it, it will probably just be to grow it that far once and then keep it at a somewhat shorter, healthier length.
My SiteMy long term goal is Terminal length. I don't know when I'll go all out, but eventually I will. For now I'm jst trying to get to my waist.
Hair can still be healthy at terminal length. you just need to take good care of it.

I thought mine was terminal length, and then it grew a bit more, so who knows? I think much longer hair is certainly possible.
I have placed my terminal growth length at about 18 inches...it is the longest I have grown over the past five years. I am an older guy so growth is slow. I usually get a minimal trim every six months...to take care of split and raggedy ends. I have had three journeys to long hair and have enjoyed the journey rather than the final result...so will probably cut my hair short this summer and begin again...we'll see.
As someone growing out for the first time its hard to understand that! Hard to imagine waiting all that time for it to grow and then cutting it. But you're not the first who's said that. There must be something to it. Maybe it only makes sense when you get to your goal.
Hi Chris,
You hair looks great and in good condition.
Why would you want to cut your hair keep it growing!!!

No way am I cutting! I was asking the poster earlier (beachbum) in the thread why some people grow and then cut, and then grow again, the way he described.
I second the motion of John B. on this one. Hair as great as that cut? Well, if you must......but in your case I would give it more than the 2 week thought process. Looks much too good long. Perhaps you would enjoy letting it grow down to your knees, hence setting a new goal of enjoyment allowing it to grow-out even longer?
Unfortunatly I think mine is about 20" =/-. :(
Jason:
go for it!
What have you got to lose?
You should at least try to go for really long hair at least once in your life (e.g. mid-back, waist).
The journey will be fun, and who knows, maybe you will even like having your hair much longer than where you normally have it-and even if you don't like it, at least you'll know what it felt/looked like and you will have satisfied your own internal curiosity, and then you can cut it back.
So go for it!
Well, I'm not at terminal length, but my hair may become a tripping hazard before I reach it (;-)
Really long hair can be healthy as long as it's properly cared for. Hair will thin with length simply because not many strands make it to greater lengths. Some may not like that look, but it is natural.

Hi Jason,
I haven't been on the board in a while!
Great question, --- and here's my reply on the topic...
I believe I'm getting "close" to my own terminal lenght; but since it's still growing (although seems slower in making much progress nowadays), I'm pretty sure I haven't yet arrived. Based on the fact that my hair thins out quite a bit towards the ends, my guess is that my own personal terminal length will probably stop somewhere around my belt-line, --- which means I don't have too much farther to go!
Genetically-speaking, I have an aunt on my mother's side of the family who used to have knee-length hair for many years (she cut it short after her first husband died). Everyone on that side of the family has pretty amazing hair, --- other than one male cousin whose hair has thinned out quite a bit. My father had a full head of hair up until his death (at age 68), --- other than a small amount of receding hairline at the temples (which I've also inherited).
As we get older, our chances of experiencing a really looooooooong terminal length usually decreases, --- even under a fairly favorable genentic situation such as mine. So, my personal recommendation for all you younger longhairs is: GROW IT WHILE YOU'RE YOUNG!!!

Hi Ken,
Thanks for your input. Can't wait for those instructions on braiding! *wink*
