p.s. gave up on the temp dreads, took way to long
Whoa there. Be careful on the B6. Most human beings end up with odd dreams at night from B6. I quite enjoy it, but most people I know who have tried it end up with what they call nightmares and lose sleep over it. For me if give extremly lucid dreams and I find the best way of getting the maximum effect is to take it about 1-2 hours before bed. Outside of that I persoanly think that unless your buying really pricey multi-vitimans (as in the $80+ per bottle type) your getting ripped off. the normal namebrand multi-vitimans only have about a 20-30% solubility. You would do better with any kind of storebrand diet shake like slim rite. They are 100% soluble and give you protein to boot (which of course your hair loves). I've been using B6 and the shakes (either shake in a can or the powder kind you mix with milk), for almost half a year now. I noticed stronger hair and what to me woould seem to be a maximum growth rate has been reached. These are what seem to work for me and I assume that they would work for most others. I just wanted to caution anybody who takes B6 pills to accecpt that most people do have dream problems with them. They of course wont hurt you (if not overdosed like anything else), but they can cause you to wake up often and get a very restless nights sleep. To most people, I would recommend toying with them for a weekend and if you have problems then leave them out of your diet all together. It'll take about one to two weeks to stop having the dream problems.
I tend to just have more dreams, not necessarily bad ones...but I dunno. What are these really high-quality multi-vitamins you speak of? Any brands, that actually are worth it, and actually much better than the cheap type (but maybe not quite $80!)?
GNC sells a number of them and you can always find them online. I purchaced a 60 tablet bottle a few years ago for about $65 but then there was a $10 shipping fee since the company that made it was in Canada ( dont think medicine here, it was just a high quality multivitamin that claimed 90+ % solubility). Close enough to the $80 price at GNC. Yeah in the long run those goofy diet shakes cost a bit more, but they 100% soluble and have the added benifit of giving you protein. You can always get the cheaper slim fast/slim rite dry formula and ad it to milk to get the same results. Great for the hair and everything else. Nobody said you had to follow a diet with it, lol. I dont. I just use them in place of a multivitamin.
As to the are they worth it question, well that depends. If under ideal circumstances you consider that the avarage name brand multivitamin has about a 10-20% solubility for a healthy person and the typical $10 to $15 price tag then consider the price of the 90% solubile stuff, yes it worth it. Of course the best route to take is to eat a well balanced diet (that means a nice helping of everything), maintain a certain level of fitness and your body will take care of the rest. Lets be honest though. Most of us are to lazy to workout on a regular basis and as adults we tend to eat what we want and not what is best for us. Over time, we slowly watch the healt slide to the wayside only to be replaced by the "wubba" (a bigger stomach).
So I'd say if your to lazy to stay fit, only eat junk food, and want to give your body somthing healthy as an afterthought, then yes the good vitimans are worth it. Just dont expect them to make you feel or look better. They only help let your body get what it needs to function correctly. It's really up to you to do the rest.
Hi Asthepalacesburn,
My experience is similar. I find it's quite sufficient to take a "B-100" pill (available in most U.S. drug discounters; it contains 100 mg of other B-vitamins and niacine, too) twice a week to get a noticeable effect on hair growth. In some individuals, it may even slow down MPB, and the theory behind is that MPB, among other things, is an early reaction towards a mild deficiency in nutrients.
Taking huge daily doses of B-6 may have some mood-altering side effects, and some people get odd dreams, as Kodai points out. Occasionally, excessive doses of B6 (and B1) might even make it more difficult for a male to keep inappropriate sexual urges under control.
If you do want to take vitamins, you may add biotin (5-10 mg twice weekly), iodide (no more than 400 micrograms twice weekly), and folic acid (5 mg twice weekly). Make sure you don't combine the biotin with undercooked eggs, the streptavidine in the eggs will neutralize the biotin.
In any case, I wish you happy growth, and have fun!
