i have been growing my hairsince october 2005 and the fring reached my eybrow well when i strech it, coz my hair is kinda curly and i hate it, well the only way that i know of around curly hair is to straighten it but i heard its not good for ur hair after a few times so i quit doin it, well i wen to a salon for advice, got a wash and a blow dry, he thin trimmed the split ends off and did some texture cut, my hair fell more lighter and managable.
The the guy really pissed me off, coz he said i advice u that u shouldnt grow ur hair to shoulder lenght (which is my target) coz it gonna look like an afro rather than a long hair, so guys i need help and adivce, shall i take the stylist advice or shall i just ignore it, coz i guess he know more than me about hair.
waiting for reply plzzzzzzzz, i need a te help and advice especially from the people who have curly hair and went through all this
Hi man:
I have never had long hair, I´m trying now, but I think that if you like long hair you should try, my hair is very thick, and I think we are doing the same, so take patience and go on, if it´s that you want.
Hope to be on contact with you.
Best regard.
Antonio.
First off, this is not an AOL chatroom. Please type business English, as it will make your posts more coherent and others will be more apt to help you.
Now to your question. 3-4 months isn't really enough time for your hair. And the more you trim, the longer it will take to grow your hair out. Yes, it will be big because you have curly hair. But forget what the stylist says. Grow your hair for you. You are the only one that can decide that.
I'll let some curly-haired folk take it from there.
Hi,
Sigurd has given you some hints already. Just check some of the sites linked on top of the board, the hints are incredibly valuable. I'd avoid further maintenance cuts for now, and just let it grow.
You can try to make the hair more manageable by using eg anti-frizz gels that contain dimethicone and/or cyclomethicone. Don't shampoo your hair every day, if you can help it. If you have to wash it, use water only. Also, use a good conditioner.
Even if your hair starts looking afro-ish, I wouldn't see anything wrong with it, and gravity will pull it down as it grows long.
Post some pictures if you feel comfortable doing so.
One other important thing: You have the all the right in the world to feel pretty damn good about yourself and your hair! Program yourself into thinking "This is waayyy cool" whenever you look into a mirror. Grow it and feel good about your decision - your hair probably looks tons better than you think! ;-)
Best wishes,
Hans-Uwe

No one has curlier hair than I do. Growing it was a compulsion for me, so I had to endure the problems you are having too. You just have to love the whole process. Further, it Will get better as it gets longer and lays down more. Try Garnier's new "Sleek and Shine" shampoo, conditioner and Especially the Leave-In, which is a clear serum with simethicones etc.It is the best I have found, It leaves curlyhair very shiny and easy to comb and much less kinky. Try it, it is not expensive. I will include a pic so you can see curly hair grown out.
I beg to differ.
And to the original poster, don't worry about what that salon guy said. Unless you have purely kinky hair, as many people of African descent do, your hair will eventually grow downwards instead of upwards like an afro. Now it's possible the salon guy simply meant that once the back of your hair is long enough when stretched to touch your shoulder blade, it'll still be an afro; well, he's probably right. My neck hair is a little below my shoulders when stretched, but still hanging above it when dry. But my hair is definitely going downwards, and it's quite tightly curled. There are many people, often of mixed African heritage (which I indirectly am), that have curlier hair than I do and still grow it past their shoulders. It just takes longer and more care, that's all.
Your hair is probably an afro now, but after about a year and a half of growing, your hair will start to fall down, so don't worry.
I would tend to take the very good advice of sj below and forget about that idiot at the Salon.
