Hey guys, this weekend, five of my friends got into a near-fatal drunk driving campus here on campus. LUCKILY, no one was seriously hurt. The worst injury was my friend Matt who was driving, who suffered a broken tailbone. My roommate hurt some ligaments in his knee and cut his eyebrow, and my other friend cut his ear badly, and the other two walked away fine. The crazy part is that they were in a Mustang, hit an SUV head on going about 60 in a 30 mph zone, and two of them werent wearing seatbelts!! Luckily, the guy they hit was fine too, but both cars were totalled. Anyways, i posted this because i wanted to reiterate the importance of being responsible while partying, and to NEVER get behind the wheel while driving. I was back at my dorm that night, totally sober, and i told them to call me if they needed a ride, but sadly, they didn't. Luckily, everyones pretty much alright. Well, the moral of the story is DONT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!
Hey Weston,I glad your friends are OK,I used to drive a tow truck doing towing for the state police in NJ.I did see alot of drunk driving accidents and it's not a pretty site.BTW did you get another dog yet?
I hate to sound in-sensitive, but those guys didn't deserve the injuries they received how?? In my opinion they deserved much worse then what they got...

Do you think an injury or worse in an accident or any event that befalls a person should be contigent on said person's intelligence or lack thereof or experience in the making or not making of mistakes, due to any factors, makes them more or less deserving of what happens to them?
People make mistakes. Does a person deserve cancer because they happened to be exposed to a carcinogenic agent?
Does a person deserve to die because they are fighting wars that some other people don't believe in?
Did the person the drunk kids hit deserve it because he was out late at night driving?
Hypothetically, do you deserve 'X' because you did 'Y'?
Who knows?
Those kids didn't deserve worse. They made mistakes. Hopefully they learned from them. Luckily, they are still able to learn from their mistakes.
You can't get cancer really by choice (unless you really want it). People that stupid usually don't learn the first time around, and it's been known to happen many times after. A little rash to simply refer to it as a "mistake" in my opinion...

It's funny, easily dismissed, or even casually commented upon,
UNTIL it happens to you.
It won't, I don't drink... never thought it was funny though.

So literal, mi amigo!
It = anything - falling down stairs, tripping over something,
having a wreck, other slap-stick comic
episode of choice, etc.
Funny = one possibility of emotional response to any
given situation
You = anybody, anywhere or anytime
i.e. - It's funny to see someone drop their lunch tray in the cafeteria, unless it's you.
It's easy to say you wouldn't cut your hair for a job, when you have a job where long hair isn't prohibited.
It's easy to feel not-to-grieved for someone who didn't survive a shipwreck, when you're on dry land.
Do you cry for someone who died because you're going to miss him, or because he no longer lives?
I don't know either.
Driving while drunk is not a mistake. It is a poor decision. The difference is significant. One is the result of a choice. The other (a mistake) is not. People hide behind this word mistake too much when they should own up to the decisions they make.
Here's how driving drunk could be a mistake. They guys go out to a bar and get drunk. They get into the car thinking the car door is really the door to their house. They turn the car on thinking that's really the lightswitch. They put the car into driving thinking they're flushing the toilet.
Get the picture? Driving while drunk is not a mistake.
Tienes razon.
In my thinking, a poor decision is equal to a mistake of a very high degree due to any factors. I think I/we got lost somewhere in the language usage. Drunk driving is then indeed a poor decision. True, true, certainly...
Only one of the five people in the car was driving, so I dont think the other four deserved anything. And sure, the kid driving made a mistake, and hes going to pay for it dearly. He cant walk for six months, and i am almost positive he is going to get a DUI and possibly some jail time.
how? The other 4 got in the car with him, and not only that but didn't do anything to stop it. Another mistake i suppose? I don't think so... more like a dumb choice which was only increased by the alcohol coursing through their veins.
Sounds about right.

I understand exactly what you are saying, and yeah, it was very stupid for them to get in the car when they knew the guy had been drinking. I am totally surprised that one specific guy in the car did nothing to stop it, but sadly, it happened, and thats that. I take back what I said about how they didn't deserve anything, because yeah, you are right, they could have done something to prevent the incident. However, its hard to wish anything bad upon guys who are some of my best friends, ya know? Its easier for you to say that, but if it happened to your best friends, I think you might have a harder time saying it. Point is, I know they made a stupid mistake, and as I said, they are paying for it. However, I am glad they weren't seriously hurt, because as Bragi said, now they have the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and HOPEFULLY not make the same mistake again.
Lucky guys! Anyone who thinks they can drive under the influence should try cycling a bike when drunk - damn, that's dangerous.
wow, your friends are definitely lucky. i would have never guessed that five people were in that car and all of them made it. this should be a serious wakeup call to them to start being responsible.
Were you drinking too? (just joking, but explain this:)
What's a driving campus?
So how was it near-fatal?
I assume you mean the Mustang was going 60, not the SUV.
I don't know about you, but I'm ALWAYS behind the wheel while driving.
Well, I agree with you there. A few years ago there was a fatal accident 100 yards or so from my house. The car being driven was going over 80 in a 30 zone and hit a bump in the road you wouldn't normally notice. This bump launched the car into the air and caused it to roll into a tree.
Here you see the street looking in the direction the car came from. You can see tire marks and gouge marks from the accident.
Hey Victor. I realize i used a lot of poor grammar in that post; it was really late and I was really tired. And right after I posted it, I realized "near-fatal" was a very poor usage of words. The "driving campus" was just a stupid type-o, and i meant accident. i meant never get behind the wheel while drinking. and yeah, the mustang was going 60. sorry about that poorly written post; as i said, i was very tired when i wrote it, and i also didnt proofread it before i posted it.
It sort of illustrates the perils of driving while tired. I kind of got a kick out of it. ;-)
don't worry so much how yu type. I understand what you meant... and in any case it just adds some fun to what you wrote.
I'm glad all your friends are ok but yeah don't drink and drive.
I bet your hair must be looking awsome!
I would have difficulty in retaining these people as friends. Where I live, the driver of that vehicle would be looking at a 12 month prison sentence irrespective of the lack of injuries to others.
PS Congratulations on putting the possessive apostrophe in "friends'" in the correct place, despite your tiredness!
I'm glad to hear everybody was mostly OK, considering the look of that car.
That car is olbliterated!
Lucky everyone was ok.
I can't possible believe that everyone escaped with minor injuries!
