Hey everyone, im still in the process of having long hair but im getting there ! i would have been growing for a year in october 06 !
i have thick hair so id say its growing perfectly fine. But i hate my orginal colour.
I have my mother colour (which is very light brown) my father has black hair (which i want)
So today i have dyed it black which i LOVE !! But i want to keep it this way, but the question is, would it be ok to ?
If i dyed it once every 2 months ? Do you think that would be ok ? I wash it once a week (i wear a shower cap lol) but it feels great washing it just once a week. I know its a pretty hard question as..well its a "Dunno!" kind of question, but any help provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

After three or four years of growing my hair, i decided to try and imporove on nature and dyed my hair black, sure i loved it for a few months, but then the colour began to fade, and the roots were coming through and it looked a total mess, it didnt appear to do any damage, but i tired of it very quickly. I am now nearly a year into growing out the dye, and i dyed the roots every two months and the whole hair every six months to top up the faded colour.
Im also in the process of growing my hair and i want mines all the way reaching the top of my stomach area. Right now my hair barely covers over my mouth but i dye it black(just like you) every month and it doesn't dry it up at all. Here's what i do, i don't use shampoo on my hair everyday because it puts too much chemicals and pressure on it, i use leave in conditionar and i never blow dry my hair...also keep away from too much sunlight and that's all.
Good Luck with Black

The thing is, repeated dying will damage your hair. The only way around that is to only colour the roots. The longer your hair, the more dye is a problem, mainly because the ends are older the longer your hair. Many people would advise getting a professional to do the roots, to avoid dyeing the previously dyed hair.
Another way is to dye it with natural vegetable dyes. They aren't always as effective as synthetic dyes, and there's no way to lighten the colour with vegetable dyes, although I know that's not your objective. Also, a few of these contain metal salts, which react with synthetic dyes to really seriously damage your hair, so you have to be careful. However, natural vegetable based coluring will not damage the hair by itself, unlike synthetic dye.
I use henna on my hair, but it has never had synthetic dye anywhere near it, and I am also fairly sure there are no metal salts in the stuff I use. Henna is a red/orange colour, but it can have other things in it to get other colours (hopefully only herbs, but read the label). The stuff I use has unknown herbs (!) in it to give brown.
I am told that applying henna first and then indigo gives a good black. Provided the henna and the indigo are pure that should be OK even over dyed hair. Messy and time consuming, but more friendly to your hair.
You might find that the black doesn't wash out..
This happened to a friend of mine who used semi-permanent black dye.
I have seen a lot of asians who lighten their hair to something that looks yellow. But naturally most Asians have nice shiny hair but after they dye them it looks lifeless and fake. Its like they had a wig implanted in their head or something. I dont think I will be dying my hair. I mean it looks weird cause asians aren't supposed to have yellow hair and their hair looked like it came from barbie dolls, and the shade just makes it look worse.
But people seem to like it cause if I had a dollar for every time I see an asian with the weird dyed hair I would be able to afford like a bunch of rolls royce.
Here are the rules of Asian hairdying
if u are Azn and have very light skin then dye ur hair it to blonde and u won't look that bad though jus different
if u are Azn and have light yellow skin then dye ur hair orange which you won't look that bad, but if you dye it to blonde u would look kinda wierd.
if you are a brown skin asian , I suggest u don't dye you hair cuz brown don't match anything.
if you are a darky asian then dun think bout hair dying u gonna look ugly in every way
and isn't Azn hair dying already outdated ??? Black is back ppl!!!
It really depends on what kind of dye you're using.
A dye with no peroxide (and since you're dying it black, peroxide isn't completely necessary) like Manic Panic shouldn't harm your hair in the slightest; it actually has a conditioning effect.
I'd recommend getting a peroxide and ammonia free dye, and using that. That way, it's unlikely to damage your hair at all.
I really should get out more and acquire some social skills...
