Hi,
Well I finally decided at 25 that I'm sick of other people (including a well-meaning but insistent mother) dictating my style to me. Been growing my hair since last summer and now I don't plan to stop. It's dirty-blonde and wavy. I have about 8 inches right now. I am brushing it back but it is down past my ears. I imagine that I would want to leave it around shoulder length once it gets there. I am a musician too and having hair makes that more fun.
I want some advice on how to take care of it and style it. I am washing and conditioning it every day which appears to be far too often judging from other posts. So I guess I need to invest in a shower cap. I am also curious what shampoo and conditioner people with this type of hair tend to use. I am using the Suave cheap stuff. And how do you keep it trimmed up so it looks decent while you are letting it grow? And I guess the final question is, do I need to worry about it getting tangled up when I sleep? Like I said, shoulder length is what I imagine, not rear-end length, so maybe that isn't a problem.
Thanks guys.
Trimming is said to help, but it does not actually it's only a lie, just use Leave In Conditionars for wavy hair, and only use shampoo 1 to 2 times per week(natural shampoo). Do not blow dry hair to keep it nice and soft. Other than that i myself have problems i only started growing my hair over the summer just like you.
What kind of "natural shampoo" do you use? I'm looking for a shortcut to the right stuff ;) And how often do you condition it compared to shampooing it. Thanks.
i use a brand called "Queen Helene", but all natural shampoos are almost the same, the point is that they don't dammage the hair with any chemicals which is good. And i condition everytime when i wash my hair, which is 3-4 times a week, but i shampoo only no more than 2 times a week.
I hope I helped, I myself have just started growing my hair, so im still learning ;)
Welcome.
Firstly read Bill's FAQ on longhair, it is a bible and should answer most of your questions.
Secondly, i would not worry about your hair getting tangled while you sleep. My hair is about your length. I think it is only very long hair that may have problems of getting tangled whilst sleeping. So you shouldn't need worry, i just sleep with it behind my ears.
Thirdly, buy different brands of shampoo and conditione to see what works best for you. Simple experimentation.
Trimming is only necessary when one has split ends.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the pointer, that looks very helpful.
Hey Rob,
I got the biggest laugh out of your post man buy you stating you're sick and tired of other people (including mom) dictating "how" you should wear your hair. I am in the same boat buddy!! My mom is NOT shy and if she dont like something, she'll let you know wheather you want to hear it or not. LOL...Good for you on making a "grown up" decision ;-)
Mike
Mike, one day I realized that no matter how hard you try it's impossible to please everyone, and pleasing some people means inevitably pissing off others. So I might as well just do what makes me happy/comfortable, and let everyone else take it or leave it. That way I still please some people and still piss some off just like before, but I spend more of my valuable time living how I want to live, if that makes any sense. But maybe this seems like such deep revelation to me when it's something everyone realizes at 25. Thanks.
