Sorry if this has been answered on here before but i am still left not knowing the answer and the archives are currently down.
It is just that even though i have cut off most of my split ends that were in the back of my head the hair looks rather damaged and fluffy and it goes all the way to the end of the shaft. I thought i solved this problem but it has come back. I guess i will have to take some pics to show you. Trust me , my "prog pics" are decieving, they make my hair look perfect, which infact is untrue. I have damaged my hair somehow but i am unsure how it could have happened. I have tried almost everything but my hair still appears very dead looking at the back. It is kinda frustrating. Maybe i should consult a salon to get some professional advice. Also i have noticed as my hair is getting longer it is starting to get straighter, the tight curls are getting less but i don't mind that. I just hot oil treated my hair to see if it helps with my hair.
hey 80s
How can you see the back of your head so well? You just cut your split ends..could they have come back so fast already? We got the same hair so I wanna see how our hair grows out by say the summertime...I'm going for shoulder length.
Cheers
No worries about your hair...
Use a mirror. Well i think it is more than split ends. It is like my hair is really dry looking no matter what i do to try and hydrate it, tried everything. My hair in the front is fine.
It looks discoloured and dried out.
Im not sure since my hair is not as long, but could it be because the back part of your hair does not get enough air? for exmample: you sleep on it, or you wear a hat or anything like that. I don't see any other reason why other than that, because hair needs air and moisture so it will be healthy....but other than that i have no clue what else could be the reason.
Hope Good Luck
Yes split ends can travel up the hair shaft.
Since this is stressing you I would recommend you try to find a
hair stylist that you can trust to get second opinion.
Whatever it is don't let them cut too much as it is not necessary
to cut very much to stop split ends. You just need to cut above the split in the shaft is all.
I think a good stylist could probably do you better with the
hair in back of you head than you can do yourself.
I forgot about the archives. I'll load them as soon as I can.
Hey 80's -
I can well understand where you are coming from as I know you value your hair ever so highly. And for good reason as it is magnificent! The "Blunt Sissors" removal of the Split-ends has done even more harm than good. But you didn't know because you are so new to all of this so it really wasn't your fault.
I certainly would, in fact I would go to 5 to see if all opinions matched-up. Then I would pick the one that I felt most comfortable with and have them target at this point every single split they can find and let them remove it. It will no doubt be costly, but it will be worth it. I don't believe you will notice much of a loss.........but the longer you wait the more damage those nastys are doing. Next time around you will most likely be able to do it yourself. At this point if all say "trim," even though I myself am against, I guess I would have to have that done. It won't be the end of the world, the hair WILL grow back that was removed and you will probably only be behind by no more than 4 months time. In this particular case you just might be trapped. Your "peace-of-mind" about your hair is very important.
Gravity is starting to work its magic. :-)
All the best -
Justin~
I dreaded that answer. I wish you said no, LOL. Well in that case the splits have traveled to the roots, well it appears so because they look brittle and dry all the way down the hair shaft. I really don't feel confident that a minor split end trim will solve this. The last thing i would seriously want to do is have to shave my head and start over, ahhhhh , the thought is disgusting. I will need to take some close up detailed photos so you can see what i am talking about.
But thanks, you're really helpful and understanding Justin and i can see you can relate to me that others can't. Some people might just call me "obsessive" or "paranoid" about my hair. I feel better already because you are so optimistic and positive. When my hair is like crap i feel like crap too. It bugs me that i try to do everything perfect i can for my hair and i cherish it yet i still am unhappy with its condition.
Good news however, i bought sharp scissors.Salon style sharp , sharp scissors. Only cost me $30AUD with a case. Gotta love ebay.
They chop a nice fine, clean cut. Alot sharper than my old pair and they really work well, great for splits.
Alot of the remedies i try such as oil treatments and the like, they work but their effect is only temporary. Give a day or so and my hair is back to its crap condition.
Anyways , appreciate your always helpful replies.
Take this how you will, but what the heck are you doing to your hair to get it in such bad shape?
By what you say, you could not have a better hair care routine, what with all the hot oil treatment and limited washing, and gentle handling through very little combing, etc.
Now, even though you have been growing your hair a shorter time than me, we have relatively the same length due to me trimming. Our hair types are similar, although yours still has it's youthful thickness on top.
I have by one means or another, been getting trims every six months. While this is a round-about route to long hair, it does get there. It's the scenic route! And too, I wash my hair almost everyday and condition it. Then comb it while it's wet, very gently, with a wide tooth detangling comb. Then most times, I put in a small, small amount of gel (L'oreal melting gel), a la Luckskind!
I don't have split ends. I never have. I don't know if it's the keeping it untangled or what. No hair brushes, no dryers, no straighteners, etc. for me.
And too, while I can make my hair look tame when necessary, it has that nature like karakul wool, to go it's own way and look dry and frizzed and just wild. While I'm NOT saying your hair looks wild or bad, why I think it looks great, it is that type of hair that does not lend itself to many 'Pantene moments.'
And too...
If you wash or rinse your hair at night, go to bed, and sleep on it, it not usually going to look like you want the next day.
I have found that getting my hair thoroughly wet, combing it, and letting it 'set' is the only way I can get it looking like I want it. Then sometimes, it still doesn't (to me). I am my own worst critic, of course.
Your mileage of course may vary. Do cars get mileage in metric countries? Or do they get kilometrage?
I imagine, like Justin said, the split end alleviation would solve lots of your problems. That is good advice.
Good luck. I hope you can solve these issues so that you can enjoy your hair, which is as it should be.
See ya later, Bragi
