Hey everyone,
It's been awhile since I posted but I regularly come here for all of the wonderful posts. It's been almost a year for growing my hair out and I have gone through multiple feelings about it. I notice when I look back at a old pic of myself with short hair I shudder and I believe that's because I'm looking at a person who was truly suppressed, not really opening up to who he was or how he felt inside, always trying to fit into society for fear of being judged by not looking a certain way out in public. I also notice when I see ladies and men with long hair now I admire their long hair, study it as I walk by and that makes me appreciate my hair even more as I grow it out. One negative thing I seem to experience is sometimes when I see a man with long hair I feel turned off by it, I'm wondering why this occurs with me? I'm thinking it must be that I'm still not comfy with my own hair, still not comfortable in my own skin as I evolve into the real "David"...
David, I know exactly how you feel. I feel the same way.
Society is always changing. It seems now that everything possible is in fashion. There are so many communities out there: longhairs; moshers; you name it, the world has it.
Just be yourself, and don't be afraid to be yourself. Can you imagine the world containing people who were not afraid to express themselves? It seems to be turning that way. The more that do it, the quicker it'll happen. Life is too short to worry, if you feel that way, then you feel that way.
I am probably not explaining myself clearly enough, but it's a contribution to say the least. :)
You make perfect sense Hurtha and yes life is too short, I'm finally becoming my true self as I live through my 40's...
WTH is a mosher?
Yes, i can relate. When i look at old photos of myself with short hair i cringe. I just look so conforming and kinda plain and boring and not my individuality. I also notice longhairs in public, both male and female. I don't get turned off by men with long hair at all. Only the "homeless" and "indifferent" types who just grow messy, unhealthy hair and take no pride, merely saving money on haircuts. Also, old receding men who have like 4 inches of hair and tie it in a ponytail which looks ridiculous and they think they are like still 20 years old and have long awesome hair, it just looks daft.
Hi 80's Metal,
You may be quite right in that may not always look good to wear a pony tail with just the bit of hair that's left in the back, but I've seen several men who are bald on the top and grow it out all the way around, and it looks perfect. Earlier, I have posted a picture of W. Shakespeare with a receding hairline and long(ish) hair, and I think he looked great - he could have worn it much longer. In my eyes, a pony tail makes more sense as long as there is hair growing on the top - once the hair line has receded (almost) to the neck, it often looks better to wear it open. Some board members are just in that situation. Still, I think that some balding men look perfect with a pony tail. Everyone's different.
I wonder how you (and others) feel about the looks of balding men who grow out what's left ...
By the way, you look absolutely great with your hair both open and in a pony tail, Australian sun in the back or not - I'm really looking forward to your 2016 update (curls from top to bottom ;-)
Greetings
Hans-Uwe
When I was younger myself, I agreed with 80s_Metal that older men with long hair / ponytail often look ridicolous. But my opinion has changed. Take as an example famous film music composer JERRY GOLDSMITH (who passed away at age 74 in 2004....I was very sad...) wearing a ponytail even as an "old man". I think it looked very good....

..and I still love his music :-)
