is it just me or has there been a really significant increase in the number of posters and posting lately? i remember a few months back if i didnt read the board for a few days there wasnt very much to catch up on. now, if i dont read it every day i miss a lot. this place is getting super busy. it really is great to see.
Isn't long hair really trendy right now? I wanna see this board grow huge. 500 users would be a good # for the site. Long hair should be way more mainstream I think. How big was it in the 70s? and what happened that made it fade away a bit..?
In the '70s long hair was mainstream to the point where most guys had long hair, but by that I mean most had shoulder length layered cuts, a few even permed. Those particular styles are now completely 'out'. Once again, shoulder length is 'in', but blunt cut and straight.
What killed off long hair was punk style. They made out to be so anti-establishment, but in fact they paved the way for the establishment to reassert itself over men's hair length, which cannot ever be a good thing, whichever way you slice it.
I personally think it's cool to be one of the "proud and few" with long hair, because i like to be unique and different...also makes me more mysterious in a way. But that's only my opinion.
I too have noticed it. Perhaps interest in long hair is more than we realize?
Amen
True. I have noticed a sudden influx of "traffic" on the board lately. Good to see newbies starting out and veterans alike posting more. I have a good feeling that the board is going to get bigger this year. With the new faster servers, increased bandwith and a chatroom it is well worth the investment.
With it being popular to have shag and emo hair cut these days i saw growth inevitable. True long hair (by our standards not the typical person.) is likely not the disired for several new(then again i may be wrong).
peace,
andrew
I don't know what "emo hair" is (and I'm not sure I want to <{rin}), but long hair is considered a bit of a badge in some circles. I'm an old-school UNIX sysadmin (back from before sysadmins were known by that moniker) and to (some of) the old line the longer the ponytail is indicative of how long one's been at the profession. So, in some circles it's not just "accepted", it's a badge of honour.
There are a lot of (mostly young) guys getting around now with reasonably long hair (still short by this board's standards), and some of us are starting to notice it and think it looks pretty cool. This happened in my case, which prompted me to start looking around the internet for pictures and info about it. Eventually I came to realise I'd never had long hair in my life and that it might be interesting to try it on for size. That meant I became more and more interested and looked for more info and for places online where people talk about it, hence I found this board.
I think it was about time it started to become popular again. It was in the 70s, then it seemed to disappear. Eventually people must become bored with what they've had for so long that trends turn around. I do wonder if long hair on guys will become anywhere near as popular in the coming years as it was in the 70s.
This might explain the increased traffic on this board.
