I went to my stylist today and he asked me if I missed my long hair. I have been thinking about it since I cut it late last year and decided I wanted to grow it out again. I cut it because it had reached terminal length and it was no longer any fun. I've said it before, half the fun was the journey itself.
Anyway, back to my stylist. Since I got it cut, I've been going back for color treatments and highlights because I'm sick of seeing grey...sorry, it's just not for me. I can't stand seeing myself with grey in my hair. So when he asked me if I missed my long hair I said, "Yes."
So he gave me a small trim and, knowing that I'm not happy with the type of hair that I have, he recommended using a flat iron. It looks fantastic. I said when I grew it out again that I would be straightening it and this just reinforced that decision.
Now I know most of you will be saying how harmful it is to your hair yada, yada, yada...but even if I didn't color it, flat iron it, or even blow dry it, it would still look frizzy and dry. At least this way, I'll get a look that I want. So don't bother telling me about the bad things.
He recommended the Biolage line for shampooing and conditioning, so I'm gonna get some of that tomorrow, and I'm also going to look into some flat irons.
From what I've seen, they're expensive...but it will be worth it for me. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Anyway, it looks like I'm well underway for my next long hair journey and my stylist, James, is along for the ride. It's cool when you find someone who understands what you want and exceeds your expectations.
That's why I love my stylist!
Take care and keep it growin', y'all!!!
Brett
georgiaboy100's HomepageThats cool you have a stylist who understands and respects your goals. As far as the damaging products you using, well yea youll get some damage but like you said if you satisfied with the results in the end thats all that matters. Good luck with you growing it back out man.
peace,
andrew
Georgiaboy, it's great to hear of your decision, and may your stylist help you to achieve your goal. Can I suggest this time you forget about terminal length and go for the length where your felt most comfortable. Personally I liked your look best with the length to your shoulder blades, but I also felt you looked cool when you were able to drape your hair over your shoulder.
I have just turned 70 and missed out on growing my hair to the length I wanted. Never got past the bad hair stage, when my wife would insist it made me look old and unkempt! In the mid-1970s I did have hair down over my ears on the side and down over the collar.
This is my first post and I think the Board is a great idea. I'm most impressed by the variety in age, personality and style, and the good-natured way posters help each other. My advice, while you can, let it grow, all you blokes.
Brett: We have similar hair and I am on my third journey to long hair. I, like you, enjoy the journey rather than the destination. I blow dry and flat iron my hair once or twice a week and I don't think there is much damage. I have been using a Paul Mitchell Smoothing Iron for about five months now with great results...I also have been using Matrix products. Today I got a good deal on American Crew so will try that for a few weeks. If you ever want to "compare notes" you can email me at beachbum90742@yahoo.com.
Goodluck with it man, you're lucky to have a hair stylest who understands you. And i have no problem with hair dye and flat iron myself because i dye my hair and im looking for a flat iron. But i would advise you to search a lot about the flat irons they have, because some are very good and probably don't even dammage the hair, because im in the process of searching for a good one myself and have been told that there are flat irons that work perfectly without drying the hair half as much as other flat irons.
Good Luck!
