My laptop was getting alot of system errors, corrupt files, took ages to load up so i decided to re-format with the system discs included when i bought it. Wow, i can't imagine when my system was this fast, it's like when i first bought it. I usually backup my data and delete it off the harddrive but i had alot of junk and alot of programs on it and that is why it was getting slow. It is like starting on a fresh slate. Installing on XP is a breeze, unlike back in the day when i was using Windows Me or 98. If any of your computers start getting slow or lots of errors i recommened to reformat. Now i just gotta install all my programs i need again. Since i'm starting uni again soon i need my laptop to be super fast to do my work.
hiya,
wanna give u some hints to prevent that ur system will slow down again (windows reinstalling is a quite boring thing in my op):
) - there is a free version available which is quite good ...2) install a anti-virus (maybe not the norton thingy - it needs a lot of RAM) - i've found a freeware anti virus which is quite good with daily updates ...-> AntiVir3) install a anti spyware program which removes spyware/adware and/or disables windows functions which might be a potential danger (UPnP, etc) ...-> WinXP AntiSpywhich laptop do u have ? has it a x64 (64 bit) cpu ?do u use win2000, win xp, or a 64 bit windows (e.g. win xp pro x64) ?in case of an 64 bit windows u cant use zonealarm and antivir cos its currently incompatible ... compatible version will follow ...maybe i helped u a lil bit :)greez,ALH

Thanks for your help. I use a free antivirus program called "AVG" and it has live updates. Windows firewall, well i was fooled with that...
I hate spyware, it infests my pc and is annoying. I will have to download that program.
I wish i didn't need all these security programs like firewall, antivirus, anti spyware - it just slows my laptop and drains the memory resources, but it has to be done.
Celeron 1.3 GHz, 40 Gig, wireless lan, DVD, don't know much more than that.
XP
oh ok. i dont thin mine is 64?
thanks alot.
Welcome to the world of Windows and we can thank Mr Gates for that and you don't need alot of that with Linux but I'm sure that gets more popular they will going for that was well.
