I've always been told that you should try to be an individual and assert your right to be one, and isn't asserting your right to grow your hair part of being an individual?
these clowns don't seem to think so.
Interesting opinion...giggle!!!

Oh brother!
I've been visiting the buzzboard off and on and your right, it's like visiting a 50's type of ancient mentality! I've been down that road, trying to please others, trying to look a certain way with short hair to please others and let me tell ya that's a inner hell of suppression I will never go back to!
I love my long hair and I'm becoming more at peace with who I am now...
After reading the original post, I almost forgot what year this is! ;) It was like a time warp... same stuff I heard when I was a kid!

Some people are like concrete, they are thoroughly mixed up and permanently set!!!!! Yes, that describes the zombies on that board.
I don´t think anyone with common sense can understand what the hell this people are saying... word of advice: don´t go too much into that little close-minded board... you´ll feel an urge to talk some sense into the freaks that frequent it, and believe me it´s useless.
I completely agree with you, but I have to ask... If we get mad when they obsessively go through our board for topics to make fun of, why do we go through theirs? Admittedly, they take it to public humiliation levels, but on a conceptual level, some of us are doing almost the same as them.
Then again...we don't post pictures of them for embarrassing/childish hair growth ideas. I don't know. Some of the stuff we do is exactly like them, but they take it to a whole other level, a level of friggin fetish insanity.
Oh, well. We still have hair. :)
I recently started not caring what people think of me or the way i want to grow my hair, i am not brought about this earth to satisfy what "others think", i have a mind of my own and i do what makes me happy i could care less what ignorant people want to think.
Taking the advice of someone earlier in one of these threads about the buzzboard, I'll stifle my urge to post a reply over there and just rant a bit here...
First off, I can't believe the incredible arrogance it takes to post to any board under the name "Truth". As if the words he posts come straight from on high.
Secondly, the load of conformist crap this guy is spouting is simply astounding. I should wear my hair short because it will please my parents, teachers, etc, because they know what's best for me and can influence my life?? I should wear my hair short because other people, even those who will have no affect on my life whatsoever will like it better that way??
Good god!! I spent 20+ years in the military and can read you chapter and verse the reasons why a fair amount of conformity can be necessary in a military organization, but this is just ridiculous. I didn't get ahead in the military by conforming. I got ahead by doing the best job I knew how.
And as for members of the LHHB being defeated and marginalized, I think not. I, for one, continue to make a comfortable living for me and my family, I've raised three good sons and served my country. If that's what he calls defeated and marginalized I think he needs to find a new definition.
Ok, think I feel better now.... LOL

Most of what the guy said is true. A lot of us did do this partly just to be unique (maybe not on this board, but then again this board doesn't represent a typical longhaired guy's POV), many did it to rebel against "rules", and many don't like the hassles of longhair. One of the things that made me grow mine was when some of the kids in my class nagged me to get a haircut after I missed one. Then, I realized a lot of cool people would accept me more if I had longer hair, so I kept growing it. I don't really like having to wait 5 hours for it to dry, and it sucks on windy days when it gets knotted up. I also love camping, but after just a few days it gets extremely tangled and takes hours to detangle. It's harder to wash my scalp with all the hair on top, and that could be bad. Being in college, the "societal" issues are not a problem, but then again I wouldn't want to work certain jobs like food service, specifically because of my hair. When I graduate as an engineer, I fully expect some discrimination in some otherwise good locations. These are things that long hairs sometimes put up with to satisfy their desire to have long hair.
If you have problems due to longhair, consider yourself playing the game of life with a voluntary handicap. If you can pull that off successfully then that says something about your true character, the part that matters.
