Hey guys at the moment my hair is at 5 n a 1/2 months growth and is quite a journey i can assure you (it feels as if i have been growing my hair for years and learning a greater appreciation for it). My hair is curly/wavy and i frequently have bad hair days of..."grr my hair looks like crap how can I achieve the look I want with my hair type".
I am tentative to post pictures up of my progress but can anyone at, or near, the 5 month mark, (slap bang akward-stage in other words)please post pictures for moral support (i contemplated cutting my hair today!) that would be fantastic.
peace
p.s. pics of curly/wavy hair would be even better

very inspiring stuff, to say the least.
I agree
but just the person to reply to this post, 80's have you any pictures of your hair in the early growth stages?
No sorry. I only started documenting at 9 months growth. Cheers.
hm i wished i also have done that ...
i started documenting and generally caring about my long hair after about 2-2.5 years of grow :(
btw ur site is great - nice hair pics ...

Here's me at 7 months.
What do you think of my progress below? ;)
hey, i put up a post a few days ago about my progress and dissapointment. it seems i've been growing it forever too! my progress is pretty crappy seeing how everyone around 11 months has hair down to around their nose/mouth and mine is only halfway b/w my eyes when i stretch it!
thing is, i know there is an awkward phase, but my hair is flat out just crappy. even when i'm gentle with it and do what the stylists tell me i still look in the mirror and i'll see many hairs with bent tips and split ends and lacking length. now they say don't get a trim, but if i don't won't these just make my hair grow in unhealthy and break off anyways and split up to the shaft? plus that kind of defeats the purpose when i trim it. i'm gonna give this another several more months. hopefully it'll get better.
here is my post (trust me my pics show my hair much better, in reality it is very frizzy, very curly, dry, and poofy. these pics were on 'good days' when i used a straight iron which i rarely use):

hey man yep you're in the akward stage and I agree with you on the point of trimming, split enz (haha...pun) etc. I'm trialing my hair growth and i think you should too...i.e. setting a realistic goal to begin with (mine was 6 months) and when it has been reached re-think your stance on long-hair. If you think that this is too short a time to see significant growth/success make it 12 months, 18 months, what ever.
I also got my hair chemically straightened and I can honestly say that even though my hair is extremely thick and curly (so the solution didn't make it deadstraight but relaxed the curls somehwat)it has ensured that I haven't cut my hair a long time ago. Try it as a last measure...just for the akward stage atleast.

heres one from mine. this is from feb. of last year. look how poofy the top is and how flippy the back is. i am SO glad to be done with that.
Have you tried slicking it back with gel? Go for a gentler one, not 'Ultra, Uber, Cyber Death Robot Strength'. Parting is another alternative.
Give it time and it will soon look cool. Once it can go behind the ears easily the worst part of the awkward stage is over.
Yeah i just hit my 6 month mark this week and i must tell you...the 5 month was the worst for me and my hair was very puffy and quite curly looking. All of a sudden after a little more growth it's becoming much straighter and with the use of conditioners my hair is also getting much softer. Know that i have just been through what you have, and all others with long hair know what it's like for that phase, so just hang in there man.
Good Luck!
