I think you had metioned in the past, the method of getting the "V" shape of hair was simply from not cutting it? No trims?
I'm at 14.5 months with no trims, and my hair is excellent shape. No problems at all. I don't even get snags or tangles!
If that's all there is to it, then I'm on my way.
I was just curious if you had done anything else to get that particular look, as it is something I definitley want to go for.
Thanks
And as I've said in the past. Your hair is truly inspiring man!
Zac
I agree. Natural V looks better than a straight trim across.
Are you still only washing with water and no conditioning or shampooing?
You seem to be lucky. My hair snags and tangles alot already.
80s_Metal,
The quality of my hair is due to these 4 things.
1. The Washing/Conditoning Regiment
2. The Vitamins I Take
3. Well Water - I just went back home to California, and my hair looked like crap after washing there. If you have city water, buy a shower filter!
4. My family has a lot of Native American herritage. You should see some of the hair in my family, it's just impressive. Not only is the hair beautiful, but they can keep at old age! Not even any balding. It's crazy.
After my lenghthy 2 Month Anti-Shampoo Experiment. This is what I currently do. Nothing but water washes til Friday. On Fridays, I used tiny bit of shampoo,(I mean tiny) and condition the length. Then I airdry with a small fan.
My hair always looks good after doing this.
Zac
i literally drench my hair in conditioner too often. This is probably why my hair always looks a bit unhealthy. Some times i don't rinse it either. Maybe i should relax on the frequency and amount of conditioning.
Yup. Think of it like this. The hair at the back of your head forms a sort of parabola/U/V/downward-pointing, anyway shape. There's a clump of hair at the lowest point your hair grows in the back, and all the other hair grows up along the perimiter of the neckline. So if left to just grow, the lowest clump will form the bottom of the V/U, and the rest will taper off along the sides.
HTH.
I would personally rather love to have a U or V when my hair grows long, i wouldn't want to make it all even.
Hey Zac -
Yes, that's true. I just let my hair grow without any trims with one exception which really was not a full trim. Because of very severe snags, knots and tangles I went to a Salon and had ONLY "Split Ends" removed of which there were many. There was no other cutting of any other hair. You are fortunate that so far you have not run into this problem, so if you continue to let all grow untouched the "V shape" will really make itself known once your hair gets long enough that gravity pulls it all down.
You sure are! :-)
Nope. Just let it grow naturally. (I have seen some photos in the past of guys that were "trim and even-up happy" and then wondered why they didn't have this V shape.) Then they go for a "trim" to have their hair shaped with the "V look." Sadly, the artifical just isn't the same.
Thanks so much for the compliment Zac. Your own hair looks very much inspiring to me at its present length. Great long hair!
Justin

The natural ends of my hair do not follow a U or V shape. They grow unevenly, forming a left to right slant, shortest on the left and longest on the right. I have no explanation for this.

No trims after about 3 years in this photo taken last year showing an extreme 'V' shape.
Coriolis effect? :)
Interesting thought, but probably unlikely. If turning my bed around so it faces south instead of north results in the left side catching up with the right, I might support this theory.
