I find that my hair can get rather dry and ratty looking, especially when it is dry. I use a load of conditioner to hydrate my hair. Sometimes i leave the conditioner residue in my hair all day without washing out. I'm starting to suspect that over conditioning may actually dry your hair out and cause build-up which is bad for hair. You keep using more and more conditioner to solve the problem and the cyle gets worse. I'm going to cut down on conditioning to see if that helps. Condition every second day with a smaller amount, not a massive oversized blob, and rinse out reside after a few minutes of washing, not leaving to sink in.
I just realised i called the title "Conditioning question?". This means i'm asking whether its a conditioning question. Should take the question mark off as it's a statement not a question. Gotta watch my grammar, lol.
lol, nobody really notices, though, except apparently the poster.
Now your question depends on what conditioner you're using, and specificially whether it contains silicones or not (yes, there ARE a number of silicone-free conditioners, which I'm forced to use on my no-shampoo method), and then whether it contains water-soluble silicones or not. I hear dimethicone is water soluble, but will still build up over time. Cyclohexane (I think) is a particularly damaging silicone and should definitely not be left in your hair.
Bottom line is, if your conditioner has silicones in it, don't leave it in your hair. If it doesn't, you're free to leave it in, as I do sometimes. I've experienced no ill results from this and I've been on this method for about a month and a half now.
HTH, dude.
i rotate between about 3-4 types of conditioner. To the best of my knowledge ALL of my conditioners have silicones in them.
Cyclohexane? no none of that stuff, i just checked them.
Why is this? I heard that silicones have a special function to protect the hair cuticle and uses a special coating over the hairs or somrthing. I'm no scientist, lol.
The bad news is that i have been leaving silicones in my hair since all my products have silicone in them, live and learn.
My hair looks a bit damaged from it. Sometimes i feel like shaving off and starting over with all the wisdom and knowledge i have obtained about hair in the last year but i couldn't do that.
^^^^thats how I feel! I'am going to shave off my head just to experiment. I want to experience growing from a shaved head and with knowledge and wisdom I NEVER knew. My long hair (9 months) never had any real good maintenance. PLUS- the process of growing somewhat ENJOYABLE to me.
The main ingredient on my conditioners is Cyclopentasiloxane, is that alright to leave in? I've been thinking about leaving more conditioner in my hair recently.
Also, do you know any conditioners with no silicones?
