Hi all - I posted here a little a loooong time ago, maybe 6 years ago (I was in HS at the time). I've been growing my hair for almost a year, no trims, from a haircut with my hair cut to the tops of my ears. Right now the longest hairs are a few inches past my shoulders, bangs and stuff somewhat shorter. I'd post a pic but I don't have a camera. I'm 22 and in grad school. BTW - If someone already uses the "dave" nick, let me know, although I didn't see any messages with that handle.
And a few Qs:
1) A good shampoo? I use vive for men anti-dandruff - not sure if that's harsh, but I get pretty bad flaking w/o it. Today I got the Johnson's baby shampoo and tried that (what could be milder?). I noticed it has some color dyes (yellow/orange), that wouldn't be enough to dye hair though, right? - I only ask because I have some grey hair.
2) I notice I have a lot of hairs that stick up on the top of my head - shorter hairs than the rest. I know some is normal, but as it's a little excessive I think it might be breakage. Any tips, outside of careful drying, combing, etc.,? I don't use conditioner but I don't think that's a problem as I have a pretty oily head.
3) More of a comment - I'm really surprised so many people here get flak for their hair. I haven't gotten any negative comments so far, maybe that's in part due to the fact that I'm on a college campus (though not IMO a liberal one), and that I live in a big city.
Dave,
I think it's probably like the news--not much of a market for good news, so if you read the paper every day, it seems that only bad things are happening.
My guess is that many if not most of us spend most of our days without flak for long hair. I cannot remember the last time that I got negative feedback for my hair. What we see on the board, and rightly so because this is a support community, are those who are getting negative feedback and need support, advice, etc.
Congrats on your hair growth, grad school, etc, and welcome back here. Regarding shampoo, have a look at Jason products. Very gentle and non-drying.
Robert
