I get asked this constantly and usually by the same people
"When are you going to get your haircut?"
and
"Are you ever going to cut your hair?"
or
they'll make a suggestion
"You would look much better if you cut your hair".
or make comments such as:
"Long hair went out along time ago"
they seem to think that since most guys have short hair and it's 'in fashion' in their own words that ALL guys should conform to their sense of fashion standards.
the problem is it's mainly coming from women. I even suggested to one of the ladies who had mid-back length hair that if she got her hair cut like Sinead O'conner I would cut my hair the way she wanted, knowing she loved her hair long.
she would reply with "I'm a woman, you're a man" kind of rhetoric.
I just wish people would mind their own business and not be so concerned about such trivial things.
Hey Florida Dude,
Sounds like you already came up with a perfect answer yourself.
How about changing:
"I just wish you would mind your own business and not be so concerned about such trivial things."
Even if you don't have an answer, you shouldn't need one.
Hey, Florida Dude. Here is the best place for some snappy answers to those nagging comments about your hair. This guy is in the members directory.

when people say "you should get a haircut" or "why dont you get a haircut"
i just say "NO everyone else should not get a haircut like me!!!!"
lol it usually avoids further converation on the subject
Here's my answers (if I even FELT like answering these unnecessary questions...
A #1: When I start tripping over it on my way to the bathroom
A #2: Only AFTER i divorce you
A #3: When the North Pole and the South Pole finally meet in Tahiti
A #1: Why, yes, --- how do you like it?!!
A #2: Yikes!! It's already waaay "TOO SHORT"!!!
A #3: Oh! you mean, the barber missed a hair or 2?
A #1: And you would look a ton better with a major face-lift!
A #2: And you would look much better with a beard & mustache, instead of that cheap dress & make-up job!
A #3: That's exactly what I said to my Persian cat before he scratched my eye out!
A #1: Good! I hate people who follow fads!
A #2: Went out? Out... WHERE?
A #3: Phew! For a moment there, I thought you might say to me that it MIGHT go out, --- I really, really worry about these things, you know. Lots of insomnia recently... I tend to stress a lot over what people think over my hair, --- how they view my outward appearance is *extremely* omportant to me... whether they'll accept me once they see my nose & other piercings... how soon I should tell the girl I'm dating tonight about my big "I love Mom" tatoo... and so many, MANY other things I can't really even talk about here!

Obviously you have to adopt a response that works for you but im not a big fan of the agressive answers - in a way i think it really just means that you have sunk to their level...
Mogh
Sorry - I didnt mean to accuse you of using such a method, im simply saying that in reality its probably not the best option.

I'd suggest a response I've always loved which I read over at the Long Hair Community:
"I'm not here to decorate your world!"
Miss Manners has a standard response for unwanted comments about one's person:
Thank you, you're so kind to worry about me, but I'm fine.
She then says you should say not one word further about the topic whatsoever, no matter how much they pry, to cut off all further debate of the topic.
Bill
I like this one. I find that having this sort of answer ready somehow discourages insults masquerading as questions. People seem to know when you have a good answer prepared!
(The alternative to the Miss Manners approach is to look someone up and down and say "Er, I don't think I need grooming advice from you!" - but that is a little aggressive and not really recommended!)
This is absolutely the type of response to give. It is simple, polite and, above all, says; "you're off limits". Then, refuse to discuss the matter further.

My answer to this seems to work.
Question: When or why don't you get a hair cut?
Answer: I was thinking about cutting it, but there is one person that likes my hair the way it is.
Ouestion: Who is that?
Answer: ME!!!
Best to cut everything short........that is these people, not your hair! :-0
When asked this question simply reply: "I don't know." Turn around and walk away and ignor any other nagging.
I get people who used to say my hair would be better short, given my hair is 5 years old now they either gave up or sided with me in a way. I've had people say they wouldn't like it short too (I certainly wouldn't myself) and a lot of positive comments about it.
As long as you care for it and it looks good, they usually have little to no argument against it save for their own conformity ideas. I mean when it comes to that you dont even need to counter it because it's entirely personal opinion and biased, not common knowledge or the likes.
on the rare occasion when this has happened...
I grab a handful of hair and peer at the ends, then look at them quizzically and ask "Which one did you have in mind?"
"Nope, I gave it up for lent"
or
"I can't, I took the Nazarite vow" (look it up)
"I'm too pretty already"
"Yup, so long ago that it's coming back in fashion again" (and it is...sooner or later)
I've heard all those before - mostly frpm my mum! I don't usually answer atall, just give a sort of a weak smile. Not really a very good response, but I don't let it get to me.
