This is how my hair looks after 11 months of having chopped off nearly 18 inches of hair last year. In real length I believe I'm around 18 months. Some might remember I was doing the bioionic thing but I decided to go back to my natural curl. I can't stop thinking about how long it would be now (since it was almost midback when I cut....), but I'm happy with the way it looks and it will grow back. I had too much damage do to hair dyes and pool chlorine (bad combination).
I will keep growing and I'll decide later if I stick to the curls or I go straight again. I'd appreciate your feedback guys.

This is 1 week after the above mentioned haircut.
Your hair really looks good both ways but the curls seem to have more character and definitely fit your features. Good luck whichever way you choose.
Chris...you stated that curls seem to have more character and that they definitely fits his features...so what kind of features does one NEED to have curly hair?
I would assume that, barring Caucasian curlyhairs, one would look most "natural" with curls with like tanned or tropical/exotic features, perhaps Spanish, Polynesian, or mixed African heritages. Those people (Spanish and Polynesian being a bit iffy here) often have curls naturally, so I guess it would suit them most naturally? erm...yeah. Something like that. I think "mixed with African" in general would suggest curls to suit one's features.
Also, I've noticed that big, muscular guys with long curly hair seem...strange to me. It somehow doesn't fit well with me.
Otherwise, it's just that people whose race suggests straight hair (as in Asians) would generally look a bit odd with curls, but ultimately it all comes down to personal perception.
I think curly hair has more character in the sense that if you have something like straight hair forever, like me, curls are exotic and interesting. As for what features you need, well those are only in my perception (of course) and not really explainable. But he looks like somebody I know who also has curly hair, just a personal thing. No objective requirements. Didn't mean to imply that. Its just an opinion!
Looks quite healthy, although with a bit of unevenness of layers - a common problem with growing curls. In other words, the top hairs might stop flowing at one point and leave a gap of sorts between the side layers so you can tell which layer is which. But with time, it'll go away.
The back is hiding the length, and if that's 18 months growth, that seems pretty tough. But at any rate, it looks healthy. Good work so far, man! Keep up the growing.
Peace
Welcome back, Giacco. Your hair is coming along well. This time why not just let it grow out long in its natural curly state? Long curly hair looks awesome. Need inspiration? Check out the following website.
