my business (men's grooming/imaging) website
Hello Everyone,
Just recently, I needed a new suit for an awards dinner in New York City. I am no good at choosing clothes, however I did get help from a lady friend at work, who has a flair for "fashion advice", and I did insist that she respect my choice of hair length, and she simply recommended a conditionner and that I tie it back. That advice was free, since I also help her with her computer problems, and non only that, I did get respect for my choice of hair length, and constructive advice by recommending me a conditionning product.
In the eighties, certain people made big bucks telling people to cut their hair real short, and get "Power Haircuts", and recommending what clothes are "right". They seemed to be expert on what to wear to get jobs, to get advancement, and since they charged big bucks, they tended to be very popular with PR departments of large firms, and especially with politicians around election times.
Very often these so-called Image Experts, were interviewed by newspapers, and showed very depressing "Before" and "After" pictures of their clients: Very often men with beautiful manes, came out with ugly cropped looks, and the before pictures were captionned with "This guy was hanging on to his youth, has a Peter Pan Syndrome, and needs a reality check", the after picture would be captionned with something like "A fresh new 80's look for our sloppy ex-hippy, he looks professional and fit for a new position in today's competitive world".
I read the posts of our Mr Gallagher and he seems to be long-hair favorable in his messages on the Bulletin board, however when I went to check out his web site, his choice of pictures shows only short haired guys in the flash animations.
If Mr Gallagher wants to show the world that long hair on men is part of the many choices of styles availiable, it would be good that his site includes for every three short-haired models, one long-haired model.
Where I bought my suit, one of the salesmen had hair down to his back, in a nice grey ponytail. I found that wonderful to see that long-haired men work in places where one does not expect to find them.
A new movement should start in the Fashion industry (Where Fasion means the design of clothing, and not fleeting fads that contradict each other over time), that long hair be considered a "classic", and that the accent should be placed on taking care of it, and there will be no reason to treat image consultants with distrust.
In the best of all times, I do remember a picture of a model with very long hair, and it was captionned "Renaissance Man". Like I say in my previous posts, the best of all times is what sticks.
Have a nice day,
Georges in Montreal.
Wow very swish!!!

Hi George,
you look very smart and business like in that suit.
If i was employer i would give you the job even just for that great smile :)
I agree, long hair should come back in modelling and become mainstream.
So it was the 80s corporate guys that killed long hair...damn them!
