hiya all,
first:
i have found (and play) a browsergame called space pioneers - its strategical, u can choose to be a "lone-wolf" or teamplayer, the system is very well secured against cheating and the best: u only need your browser to play it ;)
its available in german, english and turkish and its simply great (in my op) and there are currently about 10.000+ players playing it and its - of course - free ...
my name in there is geronimo and i am in galaxy #2 :)
but beware it can make u addicted - and here we come to the second part:
i have heard that a very few people quit that game cos it was affecting their real life (they lose friends and relationships cos of it) ... at least they were intelligent enough to quit it ...
i also play alot of pc games but i would never let them affect my real life !
goin out and having fun with friends for example and a lot of other nice things can't be replaced by a stupid virtual thing in my op ;)
i would like know if anyone of you experienced such things (maybe not only on pc games) ?
i think it's like the addiction of gambling in casinos ...
greez & thx in advance for your experiences & ops,
AustrianLongHair
btw: i dont own the game and i am not an admin or so - i only tell u about it cos i think its very funny and interesting :)
I'll give the game a try in a moment. I'm a big fan of games but I spend very little time playing them these days. Reading and exercise take up more of my free time.
I used to be pretty addicted to games. Street Fighter 2 in particular. I used to be inhumanly good at it. I'm a big-time emulator user and am very interested in retro games.
I like games that are good fun, or have excellent storylines and atmosphere. I don't like games like Gran Turismo that are just too simulated.
i am addicted to Knight Online. my character is a lvl 47 paper mage. im hopin to get to 60 pretty soon.

my advice would be go out during the day and play comp games at night..
I will check out that link now. I'm not really into multi-player or internet games. I am a bit of a game freak myself, and have been for most of my life. I'm playing the original Doom and Final Doom at the moment. I'm not one for the latest games with the best graphics, i love nostaligic playing games with great storylines and characters and gameplay.
My all time favourite games is probably :
commandos, Doom, AOE, Wolfenstien, Diablo, Dune 2000, and lots of other games. And yes, addictive, they are. In a way everything can be adictive...exercise, tv, music, drugs etc. I have an addictive personality and also OCD so that doesn't help!
Pc/comp games can become very addictive, yes and it is bad. Yes it does take over your social lives. I know a couple of people from school who are just like that. they stay at home except school days of course, do nothing but sit around and be in their bedroom for the entire day playin games. then at the same time complain about how boring it is, have no social lives and moan and groan about getting their own place and movin out of the house as if their life is as hectic as hell. the only prob they have is INACTION! and not doing anything!! jeez.
Stayin at home and doin nothin all day sittin in their bedrooms also has a grave detrimental effect in the near future for them. this guy i know (same as mentioned in other post) has such a negative outlook towards his future life to the point where he describes his future career as being a hobo if he fails his path-to-rock-music-stardom. now he wants to get an airsoft replica of some submachine gun after playin some rounds of counter-strike with him online. it costs 350 euro+ and doesnt have money. he plans to get cash by not getting a job but instead of doing 'to start helpin around the house a bit'. as i said he is encased in his bedroom all day, sittin in front of his pc and doesnt even see his family members. now he plans to consider to start helping with chores like setting the dinner table so that his mom would give hime more money than average?! what!? My counter-argument was: I already do that anyway!! Those things are just normal everyday things one normally just does or in other words being part of the family household. I am just really pissed-off right now..
What a sad, sad person. These people are called dreamers. They will get no where in life.
That's a little harsh. He could change drastically.
I don't think the games are the problem, it's the addict behaviour. If games didn't exist they'd spend all their time watching films, listening to music or whatever. The activity isn't the important thing, it's the fact that it distracts from the harsh realities of life.
Once a person stops using an activity to merely escape from reality then it becomes a perfectly healthy hobby or pastime.
