I always want to grow my hair longer but than when it gets to be 6" long on top I see a great hairstyle I like and have it cut like that style, which is my long hair downfall. I have tried many hair styles over the years some that looks good on me but I always want long hair. I let it grow for 6 mons. than off to the barbershop I go. I have thin hair. I also color it to cover the gray, I use Just for men sandy blond color to cover the gray hair. I am in my late 50's is it to late for me to change my trips to the barbershop? I know young people look good with long hair but I see very few older men with longer hair here in the New England area. I work in retail so I see alot of people every day. The last haircut I got was 3 weeks ago I had it cut to a fohawk, that style lasted until the next day, it looked good the day I got it cut but I think I was to old for the cut and just combed it over to the side. Does any one else here have the same proplem I have wanting to grow long and than get their hair cut? Am I just to old and set in my ways?
Never to old to grow your hair long. I retired from the Military when I was 60. That's when I started to grow my hair long. Always wanted to let it grow long but was unable to . Have been growing it for the past year and a half with only a slight trim 3 weeks ago. It's all grey. You really have to want to let it grow. Next time you get the urge to have it cut walk past the barber shop and as we say on the board give it another 2 weeks you'll be surprised how time flies and you will have long hair. Best of luck on your journey.
I'm 52 and have lower back length hair. There's only one way to get long hair.DON'T CUT IT!!I've had shoulder length hair or longer for 30 years.Every time I've gotten it cut I regreted it later, like maybe the next day.I'm shooting for terminal or butt length with ever comes first.Go for it.I knew a guy years ago who was 75 and had thick butt length silver hair.It was beautiful.

Hi Hair Nut,
I am 52, and I used to have approximately the same problem you have, --- in that I was too timid & self-conscious during my 20s & 30s to successfully grow my hair out (even though I wanted to do so very, VERY much). I didn't experience my first serious ponytail until my 40th birthday, --- a landmark length for most guys! I continued to grow it out until the first day of summer, Y2K, when I impulsively thought I was "ready" to return to short hair, and so cut off what had by then reached my waist, to suddenley short. To say once I realized what I had done to myself as "devastating" is an understatement! I grew it back IMMEDIATELY, and have never wavered since. That was almost 6 years ago, and I am happier with my hair now than I've ever been in my entire lifetime (as well as it is now approximately back to waist-length like before I cut it in Y2K)!
No, it's NEVER "too late" to grow your hair out, --- in spite of some folks in conservative society telling you otherwise! Mother Nature gives you the power to do so, in fact. All you have to do is... not cut it!
You have great-looking hair, BTW, --- all the more reason to grace the planet with more of it!!!
