I'm loving my hair. It's never been this long and I'm just loving te journey of growing it out. But...i have wavy hair and that complicates things a bit for me. Is there anything that will straighten my hair besided those japanese straightening services that go for 500 bucks a pop? I want straight STRAIGHT hair, that falls down nicely in front of my eyes and over or behind my ears without flipping. Not hair that bunches on the side and wisps and flips up so that i look like Mrs. Brady. Can anyone recommend any product that will take away the waviness of my hair even for a few hours when im at work.
If i pull my hair down in the front i can barely touch the tip of my nose. Can anyone guesstimate how much more growth is needed for that front hair to be tied back in a small ponytail? I know its a dumb question, but im impatient and i wanna see how much more growth i need.
For the ponytail bit, I suggest chin-length or longer, although the higher you tie your tail, the shorter your hair can be - to a point, of course. Your hair has to below your lips when stretched, at very least. The best indication is when your bangs can lay comfortably behind your ears; at that point, a tiny pony should be no problem. My hair is a bit below my chin when stretched, and it goes into a small pony at the back with no probs.
And dude, your hair will straighten out as it gets longer. Your hair doesn't even seem that wavy to me, frankly. And if your hair only reaches your nose, you shouldn't be concerned about it not staying behind your ears. This is the awkward stage, after all. Things are gonna be tough for a couple more months. I say to leave the straighteners alone and stick it out.
If you absolutely must have straight hair, you could try geling your hair and then combing it straight after it's dried, but I hear gel isn't exactly the best thing for hair. But do what you must.
Yups natural hair is always the best, just let it be but if you do want it straight, there is stuff out their called straightening cream but theres always going to be some curls as your hair grows, it just doesnt grow straight out but a when its grew more you should have a better idea of how straight your hair will grow out, you have about 9-10 months before hair can touch chin, maybe a little more, maybe a little less, depending on hair growth speed and trims but no trims and i estimate about 9-10 months =)
Why is it that human nature tends to always want whatever someone ELSE'S hair is like??? Whether it's that we wish we were a blonde instead of a brunette, had curly hair instead of straight, staight hair instead of curly, grey instead of a redhead, or thin instead of thick (although usually it's the reverse - lol!)... the fact that you have a GREAT head of hair to work with, you'd think that would make a guy grateful; but apparently, not so...
If you just leave your hair alone (do not, I repeat, do NOT straighten it), you will be the envy of every longhair on the planet, whether male or female. The weight of your own hair will help to straighten it as it gets longer (right now, to be quite frank, it's... ummmm... still pitifully "short", sorry to say!).
A little bit of waviness to one's hair gives it "BODY". You have the *ideal* type of hair in order to grow it out nicely, --- in most people's opinion, at least. The temporary sacrifice in putting up with the "awkward stage" will prove well-worth it in the end. But, if you straighten it, the chemicals used usually ruins the texture. Is that worth it? When most people find this out the hard way, they realize they need to cut it, and then start growing all over again (seriously).
... Just an old cowboy's opinionated opinion; but believe me, we've seen our fair share of people on this board who discover sadly on their own exactly what I've described.
My advise: stop wishing for another type of hair than what Mother Nature so generously gifted you with, --- and discover the joy of experiencing YOUR hair as it grows out!
