Hello all!
Finally decided to post to this board, I've been lurking for a few months now, and this board has given me much inspiration. This is also my third attempt at growing my hair out, and I've been quite successful this time. I've passed the point where I was in a mixed state, debating whether I should or should get a haircut, etc... Furthermore I kept it short due to the whole job searching process (as I am in college), however now that I'm set on graduate school into a very liberal research group, I'm just letting it grow (even my advisor is growing his hair out!).
I've also been fortunate enough to have a supportive family in this quest for long hair (in fact, my mother, who has never had a haircut in her life, pushed me to grow my hair out! (for lack of daughters in our family, methinks)). My dad and brother are both indifferent... actually they find it humorous (but they grow 'afros' when their hair gets long, maybe they're jealous).
And here are some pictures of my hair, with about 5.5 months growth from my last haircut with mid-back target. I've measured the diameter of my hair, and it is about 50 um (under a calibrated optical microscope, 500x magnification), which is on the fine side. The longest strands, in the front, can stretch to below my lower lip and are ~7.5 in. The shortest strands in the back are ~4 in, and were shaved off at my last haircut. Thus my growth rate is pretty respectable. I've also been taking some generic multivitamins picked up from the grocery store, and I've even noticed that I have to shave more frequently since I started this... they must be doing something...
Comments? :)
Looking good man. Your hair is really silky smooth and it has a nice texture to it. Keep it up.
Welcome aboard!
50 µm is very fine indeed. Sounds like you're making good progress. Looks great and well cared for.

Nice hair thanks for the info on multivitamins. I will start taking multivitamins today. I have a family event in June that I would love to show up with over the ear hair that goal is only 2" away if I can stay away from the barbershop.
Great looking hair, and are you ever lucky to have a mon that supports long hair! Good luck in growing it out, but if possible just allow ALL to grow now for a very long time and stay away from sissors. Best way to become a longhair in the shortest amount of time.
Good idea, I'm definitely staying away from the scissors. But when it is long enough to be trimmed, do most people go to the barbers for a cut? Reason I ask is, for the past 3 years I've been cutting my own hair (clippers, scissors, mirrors, patience) with success, and I hope I can continue this (and save some $$).
You've got great hair that is going to look great really long. I think you should let it go at least over your shoulders.
You have really healthy looking hair, the vitamins must be working! Great wave too, will look cool long.
Good that your in a position at school where you can grow without worry. I don't think I've ever seen such an exact description of hair thickness before, I ususally just say 'really fine' :}
I suppose some engineers (as myself) tend to overanalyze simple things :)
