Hey fellows!
Bad news here... my sister (waist lenght hair) is aiming (or should I say, disparing) to achieve butt lenght hair (more precisely touching her legs) and yesterday I was inspectioning her ends to see if they were "healthy" and the fact is that I found some split ends... she doesn't get any trims for a long time now and I do think she's needing one. Tough we are really scared to go to the hairdresses since we know that she will loose lenght, more than she is accepting to loose... Do you think that advising the hairdresser to only trim the very ends she will do it? My sister's hair is already past her waist and I do know that my mother would tell the hairdresses to cut it waist lenght again...
What do you think we should do =S ? Thank's for reading (I'll update my sister's hair with pics later on...)
Just advise the hairdresser to ONLY remove the hairs having Split Ends. AND, ONLY cut above the splits. You won't notice any loss and all will be a happy ending.............that is, as long as certain other people don't get into the act that may not want your Sister to have hair as long as she has it.
i dont see why it would be a problem as long as her hair is usually well kept (or at least in public lol) my mom doesn't like me growing out my hair bc i usually leave it frizzy until it's time to go in public--our hair is really tightly curled but it's pretty elastic so we can brush it straight fairly easily. my elder sister has her hair long enough to reach all the way down her back and it's really beauiful. but it's usually wrapped in a bun lol
Can you trim the ends off yourself, if it's just a few? It seems like the safest way if you do it yourself. She won't need a full trim, just a couple splits taken off.
If your parents don't know, it might be best not to tell them. I don't usually give this kind of behind-their-backs advice, but you've expressed concern about your mom not listening to you before, so maybe it's best if you take matters into your own hands.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
hi!
split ends are normal to this length of hair, and
the growth will be otimised by small trims approx. every 2 months.
2 options:
1.you need some very sharp scissors, otherwise you'll damage more hair than you want to save. But if so, do it yourself!
2. accompain her to the hairdresser and explain him exactly what he has to do!
Try explaining very concisely that she just wants a trim, and not to take off more than an inch at the most. Be sure the hairdresser looks like s/he's listening, and I'm sure it'll go fine.
I had about an inch cut off last Thursday, and my hair is looking quite a bit better. I think getting a trim every six months or so is a good idea for me; it keeps things looking neater, anyhow.
This site has a razor that heats up to give a no split ends on a hair should be good for the trim of hair with split ends

there is a method when getting trims or maintainance cuts that is called 'hot scissors' ...
it's available in some salons and it's claimed (microscope pics) that the hair is better sealed when being cutted with a warm/hot and sharp scissors ... the heat is adjusted to the hair type ...
it's very expensive so it's better u go to a salon of your trust who have this option to let it make ...
i am thinking to give it a try due to i have very fine hair (which breaks more easily than thick hair) when getting a trim ... in case i decide to get a trim withing the next few years :)
greez,
ALH
btw: it does not end split ends - it only minimizes the chance to get a split and at the "cut spot" ...
