I can't say I know who they're talking about, but I think the article would be interesting to some here. Post a followup if you know who they're talking about.
News Item about Fundraiser for a statue
Brian Clough was a legendary football (soccer) manager over here in England. He died back in 2004. Someone else can probably give more details since I haven't followed football for a decade and know nothing about its history.

Hello,
From what I read in the link, is that some football team wants to raise a statue for one of their heroes.
The hero in question did not like long hair on football players.
Some bloke with long hair, want to cut his hair and make a show of his haircut to raise money for the statue, and at the same time get other guys to do the same. What a show ;)
That kind of event seems to send the following message:
Long hair is unmanly, and we make a show of seeing wimps make real men out of themselves.
In Montreal, there lived a man, who in the late 1800's was considered a real man for the time, his name is "Louis Cyr", and was admired for his strength, and had very long hair.
Nobody volunteered to cut his hair to fund his statue.
Have a nice day,
Georges in Montreal.
"Liam Smyth, 35, from Ilkeston, recently announced he is getting sponsored to cut off his long hair, which he's had since he was 14.
Obviously an attempt to raise money for the statute. Well, if that's what
he wants to do so be it: the statue will last forever and then Liam's hair will grow back.
Oh well...
Brian clough was a famous football (soccer) manager. The article calls him 'Old Big Head' which is about right. Personally, I never liked him. However, this is probably because when he was manager of Derby County FC they beat my favourite team, Arsenal, 4-0, when Arsenal were well above Derby in the league. I was there.
I had no idea that he had ever been manager of Notts Forest FC, but I have been out of England, and out of touch with the game, for a long time.
