Hey, i was wondering what most people generally think about beards and generally what reactions do you tend to get from people. Also what age should i be able to grow a full beard?
You might get lots of information that you are looking for on this board moreso than here. But, as well, lots of the guys here have beards too.
http://beardcommunity.com/Beards don't tend to come in properly right at puberty, but quite a lot later, with a few exceptions. I knew one guy who had a full beard when we were in secondary school, but it is very rare to be able to do that. When I was in university I could only grow a fringe beard, i.e. under my chin but not on my face, and I was well through my twenties before it turned into a full beard. I think that is fairly normal.
I am not so emotionally attached to my beard as I am to my hair, but the thought of shaving every morning is a big turn-off. I never started shaving, but eventually started trimming my beard. For whatever reason, I'm into long hair but not long beards.
Elektros,
That's my experience, exactly, and my preference on beard length!

Well i am almost 19 and still can't grow a beard. I shave what measly hair i do have on my face to make it grow thicker.
I am aspiring for a nice short beard in the future. Shaving sucks.

I just can't imagine myself without facial hair... the longer, the better! I really think the archetypical 70s hippie (and of course the classical rural Afghan!) would be incomplete without a beard!
Suburban redneck kids sometimes shout "Osama! Osama!" after me, but nothing *really* distressing happed until now... no, and I don't expect to be dragged right away to Guantanamo Bay just for using the word "Afghanistan" in public and wearing a pakol (there's a video from 2003 showing OBL in the very same headgear...)...
That depends, sad to say, on your genes... for example, the first picture attached here shows my first beard attempt at 20... doesn't look very convincing, so I shaved it off some months later. At 22 I started again, contenting myself for years just with a more or less fashionable 90s goatee, only at 29 I first started to grow it out into a full beard...
No, that's a legend... shaving just speeds up the first few millimeters of growth, but doesn't increase the number of beard follicles!
Oh yes, it does! And its a torture for the skin... first scraping your face with steel blades (which are usually not disinfected), and then pouring biting alcohol on it! YUCK! No, I really can do without... and millions of Afghans too!

I totally agree with what you said about shaving.
I'm just wondering...Aren't you a German?
You keep mentioning Afghanistan so i'm guessing that you have some background there. Am i right?
I met a few Afghani immigrants in Australia who fled from their origin country because of all the turmoil and problems there. They are really nice, hardworking, honest people.
One that i met had a mixed bloodline with some Asian in him, a most interesting mix. Anyways, enough rambling.

No, the most Afghan thing about me is my pakol (hat)... I have no Afghan ancestors, nor ever have been to Afghanistan, but it's a great dream of me to travel there one day!

Well im 17 and judging by your photo i can grow more facial hair than that so i can't be doing to badly?
I definitely approve of beards. I've had mine for almost two years now, except for a six week period of mutton chops and regrowth. Mine is a little patchy in the cheeks and the 'burns don't connect to my hair, but it really doesn't matter. Maybe in 10 years, it'll thicken up. I'm 23 and didn't think about attempting a beard until I was 21. Up until then, I had tried a chin-only goatee, but only because there was no hair on the sides of my face. On the other hand, when I first met one of my friends, I was 16 and he was 14 and had a full, bushy beard. So it really depends on you.
I've been growing a beard since December 21st, and it's gotten pretty full now (I'm 16), but there are a few thin areas here and there. I haven't got many comments, but none of the few I have gotten have been negative.
