Hi everyone! I'm fairly new here, and have posted a bit, but haven't actually started my own thread or introduced myself.
I uploaded a picture of me, don't mind my scruffy lookin face.
I've been growing my hair since I graduated when I was 17, class of '03. I went through the "awkward stage" working at fast food and wearing a hat. =) Haha, it worked.
I fell into the myth of "trimming every so often to get rid of split ends", just because I heard it from so many people (including barbers). So, my hair isn't as long as it cooould've been in almost 3 years, but it's still pretty dang long. It's quite a bit past my shoulders, approaching the nipple area, just 2 more inches to go... haha.
Anywaaay. I read the FAQ here (well, the first one on the list, whoever wrote that one...) and I must say, well done. I've actually figured alot of those tricks out on my own--along with time and patience, which seems to be a longhair trait. I'm quite obsessed with my hair anyway and take insanely good care of it...which is why it's shiny and I LOVE it.
The one thing I did learn though, was not to wash your hair everyday, or at least with shampoo. I never even thought of that. And thanks to everyone who supported that theory on here, my hair now feels better than ever and my natural hair oils are more abundant. Don't know why I didn't figure that one out before. =P
I was considering taking the supplements, or vitamins, to help though. Would that really help with hair growth and the amount of oil? I won't mind cutting my nails or shaving more often. =P
I find that the ends of my hair are still a bit dry in comparison to the top/mid sections of my hair. I run my fingers through my hair to help with that, take lukewarm showers so it doesn't wash away all the oils, and gently comb my hair after a shower. I only seem to lose about 5 hairs a day..... weird. My hair isn't curly but it seems to be pretty straight on top/a bit wavy on the bottom. The increased amount of natural oils seem to be helping with this, from not shampooing as much...
Anything to improve on this?
Just wanted to say hi and see what everyone thinks. =)
P.S. those Danny Cecati pics are awesome (as is his band), wish I could have hair at least at waist length.
Hi there,
Welcome to the board and thanks for posting and your thoughts on your own hair routine as well. You hair looks in really beautiful condition and a great colour and has a great shine to it. Certainly nice to see the natural waves as well. Certainly a good inspiration. Do you have any goals for your hair length as I see you mentioned Danny Cecati.
Keep it growing.
John.B
Hey, thanks for the great welcome. :)
My routine has been pretty good in the past 2 years--after I figured things out a bit. The first year, heh, I didn't know what I was doing, and it was in the awkward short phase anyway. =P
Ever since I stopped using shampoo and conditioner every day it's improved by alot though, it seems a bit more shinier, feels healthier, and easier to comb/manage. I used to not like the waves, but I never even dared try to straighten--now I seem to like the waves a bit.
What's your routine like? How long is your hair?
My goal is probably mid-back hair. Considering the average terminal length is supposed to be 1-3 feet, and mine is 15 inches atm. If I can get to mid-back, I'd be happy. At first my goal was shoulder length hair but I surpassed that. =D

Here's another picture..
Welcome!
Your hair is looking amazing, as you said! You could go to waist-length easily. It's so awesome to have a newbie posting that already has the long hair, lol. Keep up the excellent work, dude!
As to hair supplements, though, I would advise against them, not because I've heard that they're harmful, but because they often apparently turn out to merely be a waste of your money. A good multivitamin, yes - but additional hair supplements, probably not. Some longhairs HAVE found success with them (I believe all this is in the FAQ already, but hey), but the majority don't seem to see any difference. So just keep doing what you're doing. As long as you keep your hair in good condition, your hair'll hit waist, perhaps literally, in no time.
And yeah, Cecati rocks. :D Must be hard to ponytail his hair, lol. And imagine washing it loose...imagine stepping on it and slipping in the shower! That just might hurt a bit, lol. I wonder how he does it.
Peace
Hey thanks!
Yeah I'm definitely newb here, wish I would've found forums like this sooner! Methinks I'd have about 2 more inches saved from those trims awhile back...
Yeah, I read in the faq about supplements like multivitamins. I forget which vitamins help hair grow and stay health.. B12, and C are a few I think. I suppose I could try it just to see but I get the impression that eating healthy is simply better.
Man, waist length seems so far from now. Then again, I probably said something like "shoulder length seems so long from now" about 3 years ago.
Yeah it kind of confuses me, how Cecati would take care of that hair... slipping on it and falling? Haha.. I dunno.. I almost hope my terminal length isn't THAT long.
Well on a side-note, my younger sister's hair (she's about 17) is, well, down to her butt and apparently she keeps having to trim it because she sits on it. So I don't know, maybe my hair can go past my waist..
Welcome, Peg Dizzler. Your hair looks great. Your hair care routine is working well for you.
You mention trims. You dont really need to trim all of your hair. Actually, you only need to trim off the split ends, just 1/8" to 1/4". Removing just the split ends sacrifices an only a tiny bit of length, you won't even notice it. Trim them individually as needed.
Supplements will help growth rate only slightly, no more than 10%. Supplements may lengthen the growing cycle. I believe they have for me, although others here may disagree. If you can increase the growth cycle by one year, that is a gain of 6" in terminal length. (You already shed very little, which tells me that you should have a terminal length way past your waist, like me.)
Shampooing less frequently is definitely good for achieving maximum length. (I wash mine about every 8 to 10 days.)Again, welcome.

Hey, thanks. :)
Yeah about the trimming, I used to trim before I really knew that was just a stupid myth. I didn't trim very often at all and each time was like 1/4" to maybe 1/2". I did trim the back quite a bit when it first started growing out, so that it didn't look like a mullet, haha.
Hey man whatever you're doing is working just fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Your hair is healthy and you shouldn't have any problem reaching waist length as long as your genetics allow for it. Great hair and keep up the good work.
Thanks! I'll keep it up. The only thing I'm a bit dissatisfied with is static... but I guess I just need more humidity in my room!
Hey Peg,
It is good to finally see a newbie around here who actually has LONG HAIR! Your hair is awesome dude!
I'm glad that you have found a good hair care regime that works best for you. The amount of knowledge i have gained from this board is worth it's weight in gold. It is also fun to meet other cool long hair dudes and provide support and inspiration to eachother. All the best. Jean.
Haha, thanks! Yeah I'm a newb =P I'd say my hair is fairly long... =D
I've learned alot from here, too. It's amazing how fast it seems to take effect too. After I stopped shampooing everyday, my already-healthy hair improved so much.
It is cool to meet others who share the same lengths of hair, as well as opinions, too. :)
Also, I love 80's metal. Megadeth, Manowar, Death, all styles. =)
Welcome aboard - and Great looking hair!
- Oren
Hey thanks! I saw the thread you made, and your hair looks great too! Real shiny. =)
Hey there, welcome to the forum =)
Look here fellow, if you ever cut your hair you have to send it to me so I can expose it in an art gallery... it's just so WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO think that from now on I will be just so happy that my hair is wavy. You have just the haircolour that I consider perfect... You seem to be very pleased with it and that's good =) Like you, ?m also obsessed with my hair and I can't wait for my bangs to reach as long as yours =) It's a shame that you have trimmed it so much indeed... you know, three years, in some cases, is just enough to reach almost waist lenght, and I do hope you'll grow your hair very long. If your sister could, then most likely you can do it as well. Maybe you could show us your sister's hair? I also have a younger sister and she's my biggest inspiration to grow my hair as well (she's got waist lenght hair).
Your routine also seems to be very healthy and lucid. I wish you the best luck on continuing keeping your hair like that, it doesn't need a change, it's already perfect, better than that it's just impossible =) Gongratulations and once again welcome to the forum =)
Hey, thanks for the kind words!
I don't plan on cutting my hair, after reading the FAQ (and relating to it 110%), I realize it's a part of me and my personality. Just like the one part said, some people are born longhairs. Well, I've been wanting long hair since I was in 6th grade, I'd say that's a sign.
About trimming it though, I never trimmed much off. It was only a couple times a year, because I believed I had split ends. Which I probably didn't, looking back. Even if I didn't trim my hair would probably only be a few inches longer. But I am shooting for that waist length, someday someday.
Nice hair -- give it 2 or 3 years, and it should be to your waist.
Thanks. I hope for the best!
Glad you figured out a way of getting through the awkward phases without
too much difficulty.
Your hair looks very healthy, shiny, etc.
Good Luck!
Welcome to the hyperboard Peg!
From this introductory post of yours I can tell that not only are you a nice guy who will make a great addition to our 'team', but that you have awesome hair as well.
And at waist length, if you keep treating as you are now...well, it'll be killer.
So welcome aboard, I'm glad to have you here!
