A recent study of Beethoven's hair comes up with the conclusion that Beethoven died of lead poisoning.
But my wife's hair has tested very high for mercury, but her blood levels are near normal. Perhaps the body merely uses the hair to get rid of hevey metals before they reach a dangerous level. She (and me too, I guess) may be getting the mercury from certain fish such as tuna and swordfish that we eat once a week or so.
That is true. The body uses hair to excrete. Mercury is actually what they expected to find in Beethoven's hair, particularly since they thought he had been treated with it for syphillis. But they found lead instead, and at extremely high levels.
My hair tested high for plumbum (lead), but my blood levels were normal!
I imagine I would have high levels of lead in my hair, since I work as an electronics technician, and am constantly exposed to solder.
It's hard to tell, I have long hair in this picture, but there's a ponytail going halfway down my back!
