Just out of curiosity... do many, or any, of you guys wear half-tails in the workplace? If so, is it generally found acceptable? I would imagine it less acceptable than normal ponytails, seeing how strained managers seem to be with the mere concept of long hair. But what's it like in real life?
Also, do many of you actually wear it in public? Any interesting comments/reactions? Though my hair's just below chin-length stretched, I find this style looks really nice. I'm planning to wear it more often, and I'd just like you guys' personal experience with it.
In my case, it´s actually the only way I tie my hair... except when I sleep, in which case I tie it with several hair bands. I like it, because with a half tail, you get to keep the hair out of your eyes and face, and still show it around, hehe! I think it looks very cool... well maybe not on me, but I prefer it over a "full" tail!
Ok, just contributing with my humble opinion.
See you around!
First off , my half-tails suck, i would rather let my hair grow heaps more before i would even attempt to wear it in public.
Although i have no experiences i think it would be even more disliked if you wore a half-tail, as opposed to a full pony tail, in the workplace. Not only may it look more 'feminine' but your hair is basically still out like a normal hairstyle, except that the front is tied back. So it would probably be pretty much the same as wearing loose hair. The boss is gonna hate it.
From a practicality view, it keeps your hair out of your face and looks really cool at the same time(since you get to wear your hair out).
My daughter put my hair into a variation on a half tail the other day. She plaited the sides of my hair and brought them together in the middle, and then tried to put the surplus into a small bun.
Unfortunately she doesn't really know how to do a bun properly (she's 8) so that part came out a little weird. She had done the same thing on her own hair the day before and the bun part came out a lot better on her own hair, actually because it's shorter than mine. Also, she fastened it with a hairband that had dangly heart-shaped beads on it! No, I don't have a photo!
It did make me think that a half tail is a pretty good style though. If Legolas can get away with that kind of style, then why can't the rest of us?
I have to admit that I always wear my hair down for work. I think that if I fasten it in some way they will expect it in future and/or they will think it girly. Back when I started growing my hair out guys didn't even wear ponytails atall (yes, I am that old!). I often wear my hair plaited in a single pigtail, but the only time the people at work have seen that was when we went to a theme park for the company outing, and I wanted to secure my hair before going on rides that flipped me upside down.
Thanks for the replies, guys.
I find I look "girly" in this style to the point of looking like my female cousin - but I don't mind that. The idea of long hair being all macho or all feminine is irrelevant to me. Hair is hair, and who cares how we style it?
I wore it last week, I didn't have any negative comments, someone said I look like I'm out of the braveheart movie.
Does anyone know of a good place to find pictures of half-tails or any instructions on how to tie a half-tail?
Thanks for any info!
