Today, my friends and i drove to Houston to go to the Texas Metal Fest. It was pretty fun, but a lot of the bands kinda sucked. It was all regional local bands. We went for a band called Suffer Stream; they are from Mandeville, which is about an hour east of Baton Rouge, just north of the lake from New Orleans. Lots and lots of long hair there. Anyways, just wondering if anyone else was there... thatd be kinda funny, small world and everything.
Hahaha, sounds cool man. I didn't know Texas had a metal festival, let alone metal fans. My ignorance really shows :)
MOst of them sucked right? It is the same as most of the local metal bands here. They all have the cliched cookie monster vocals and downtuned riffs and almost no guitar solos. I hate that "nu-metal" stuff.
Maybe Victor was there, he lives in Texas :)
Too bad for you guys that you local scenes suck, I'm getting more and more into the local scandinavian scene. A lot of great bands here.
Well aren't you lucky? There are alot of great metal bands in Europe, including Denmark and Sweden. Alot better than most of the American ones, by todays standards. There are alot of great bands in Sydney but the metal ones are not so good. Kinda generic sounding crap more than metal really.
Yep, you're a lucky dude. I can't say I've really experienced the local, smaller scene where I'm living now but it appears to be populated more by Myspace-Metal bands. We get a decent amount of death metal bands passing through (Cryptopsy, Decapitated, Cannibal Corpse), but from what I've seen the black metal scene sucks badly (though we had Gorgoroth here a few months back). Maybe John B could fill me in on that, I'm probably just oblivious to local bands!
I'd love to live in any of the Scandinavian countries for all the black metal. Even better would be Russia. I'm listening to Old Wainds now, and the music is brilliant.

You have no idea how lucky you are. A lot of my favorite metal bands come from Scandanavia: Sonata Arctica, Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, and so on. I really want to take a trip up there sometime, see some good live music :-)
Cool let us know when you plan to come over.
John.B
Well you certainly have a great renaissance of up and coming bands coming from Denmark from what I see and here and my recent trips to Denmark.

Yeah, there's some good stuff coming out now.
Actually, one of the best metal bands to come out of America, Pantera, comes from Texas. However, they're from Dallas (and Phil Anselmo is from New Orleans). I also drove to Houston to see Opeth back in October (GREAT SHOW)!! And im seeing them again later this month in New Orleans!!! i cant wait!!! :-)
I did checkout the fest flyer and some great bands there. At least you would have seen Obituary as they never made to the UK on their last tour as they could not get their work permit paperwork sorted out!!! I also checked out Suffer Stream not bad.

That was a cool show. It looks like have another in the works later this year......
I'm not anywhere near Texas (I'm from Michigan!) but once upon a time I saw one of my favorite bands at the time (still one of my favorites I suppose) play in Houston, they were called Deep 6. Maybe you've heard of them..
Actually, i heard that name come up while i was there! one of the bands mentioned something about being excited about opening for them sometime in the near future.
Oh yes I've heard of them and they have a good sound. Hope to see them playin the US at some point or Europe you never know.

I actually postponed my vacation to go to this show. I had to go check out Obituary, and a couple of my buddies bands. Well worth it.....
