Hi, Ive been growing out my hair for about 2 years and its at chest length,[mid back] ive had alot of my mates (who also have long hair, well most of them)say that i should get a trim because its starting to get split ends, Ive had no cuts at all since i started to grow my hair long, im not fond of getting even an inch cut, but will my hair become extremely bad, or even stop growing without slight trims.
any of your thoughts are welcome gratefully thank you
If you can post a picture and let us have a look.

Alot depends on the persons hair. The BIG thing is "if" Split-ends are causing you excessive tangles, snags and knots. Then a slight trim would be to save your hair. Have ONLY the Splits cut just above the splits.
Your hair will grow fine otherwise without slight trims.
Wow , mid-back length for 2 years. I'm jealous as i'm at 16 months and struggling to hit shoulder length.
John B is right, post a pic. That way we can assess the damage and split ends and decide if your hair is really due for a trim as your friends say.
If your ends are getting ragged and unattractive, then I think a trim is a good idea. For me, long hair (both on myself and on men) is about beauty. I'd be in favor of removing any damage because it's not aesthetically appealing to me. Other people are big on length. It just depends on how you feel about your hair.
A good hair stylist will be able to cut off the split and damaged ends while preserving as much length as possible. You may not have to loose as much as you think! Personally, I think you should have your ends cleaned up, but you should do what you think is best.
