I was flipping through the new issue of People en Español last night when I came across a pic of Mexican actor Gael García Bernal ("Y Tu Mamá También," "Amores Perros," "Mala Educación," etc.), who I didn't realize has been letting his hair grow out. Looks pretty good. Here's a pic I found on imdb.com.
Cheers,
Jeremy
Hi Jeremy,
Actors usually grow their hair just the way their next movies require it - even if they are not really interested in long hair per se. Conversely, they will often cut it off again as soon as another movie requires a short-haired actor. Kind-of sad, but that's the way they seem to do it...
To you, I say, happy (hair) growth forever, Jeremy!

That's definitely right. I suppose you can't blame them, as it's their livelihood.
Of course, nearly all parts could be cast with long hair, except for cops and military roles, but that doesn't seem to be the way the industry sees it. Anyone working in an office is always portrayed with short hair, even though it's not that hard to hold down a white collar job with long hair these days. I have even seen a bank teller with waist length hair, but you won't see that on the silver screen. they would rather show actors who fit cliches and pre-conceived notions of how a particular role ought to appear than show what real people look like. Ironically, it probably does help suspend our disbelief if a bank teller or an office worker looks like a stereotype.
Very nice. Very nice indeed.
Looks like it doesn't even touch his shoulders yet.
I say that because the committment part starts past that point and if he doesn't know how to comb his hair (going by the pic) then it won't do well at a longer length.
