I simply canno't comprehend it.
The words unbelievable, super human and just friggin insane come to mind. This takes super lengths to another extreme.
As for the skeptics, these are fair dinkum photos off an extreme hair lengths website. That's gotta be atleast 10 foot of hair right there! Just amazing. I have never seen hair this long before. It seems to be very thick and full right to the ends, an almost infinite terminal length. How could one possiby care/maintain and keep that much hair in great condition?
That is just a daunting thought on its own.
I, too, cannot imagine how a person could cope with hair that long. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't love the opportunity to find out for myself . . . but that ain't gonna happen.
I think I mentioned quite some time ago on this board that I once saw a young guy (college student) of Asian descent walking along the sidewalk with some friends. What caught my eye was that this one guy had such long beautiful silky black Asian hair that was tied in a ponytail, and the ponytail hung down to his waist and was folded up to about six inches below where the ponytail started (at his neck), tied, then folded down to where it was tied about six inches above his waist . . . and the end of the tail (the last six inches or so) hung free to his waist.
Just doing a little simple estimating, I can only imagine that his hair, when unbound, must have - at the very least - hung to the floor. I often wonder where this guy is today.
Personally, I think it's beautiful, not ridiculous. Here's another long haired woman, who once held the Guiness record for long hair.
The German text reads, "Well on her way to becoming the woman with the longest hair in the world is the American Diane Witt from Worcester (Mass.). For 15 years, her beautiful hair has not been cut. It is now 259cm (8 and a half feet) long.
Just awesome, Cindy Cristian had some nice hair too.
Wow, 8 and a half feet of hair!
That is simply beautiful hair and so thick and nice.
It seems women have longer terminal lengths than guys.
Even the longest on this board, probably Absalom, could not achieve these extreme lengths.
I think hair is the same for men and women, i did research and found that one of the only things that are the exact same between men and women is hair.
The reason those women have such long hair is because they're the "handful" of the entire world who have the longest recorded hair throughout the entire world...i'd say probably 1 out of 40 million women could have such length if they're lucky.
Good insight , Oleg. Your really put it into perspective for me. Hair this long is not the norm and not many humans can possibly achieve such amazing lengths. These are truly a few handful of individuals who are blessed with perfect hair genes/terminal length to grow super -long hair and love to maintain and nurture their locks of gold. So it is dependant on both genes, pre-determined terminal length and how the grower's hair care regime and maintenance.
The longest hair i see on woman is usually waist length or a few extras more. I tend to find that most of these women with very long hair are usually Indian/Pakistani etc. They must certaintly take pride of their hair in their culture and it must be a tradition for women to sport longer lengths. They tend to have very thick , wavy long hair. Many caucasion women i see are the ones who sport those terrible hacked short cuts, very unappealing to me.
Actually, the world record holder for hair length is male, at 5.24 meters/17 ft.
http://www.thaifocus.com/news/stories/longhair.htm
So, being male/female doesn't necessarily have an effect on terminal length.
Quite umbeleivable...i tried searching under the name of "Mr. Hook"..which was the name in the site, but i couldn't find any pictures of him, to actually see the hair. Too bad :(
There should be pictures on the site, several people are actually holding his 17' long braided hair.

It is now 259cm (8 and a half feet) long.
Here is probably the best quality photo of her hair at 13 feet long.
Absalom
As you can see she's already reached her terminal length(end part of her hair is very thin)...she won't be growing any longer than that most probably.
Then I guess it is true. Amazing, isn't it!
looks like she's trying to be Repunzel. but...wouldn't it be a problem if your hair was longer than your own body? =| i know the maintenance on ankle-long hair must be torture sometimes (especially if your hair is naturally curly). imagine what it would be like for her hair LOL
WOW that is amazing hair length going on here
It just shows you that you have really longhair and at the same time still have a fringe/bangs. It looks great.
Astro.

Hair hardly needs to be that long for a fringe/bangs great look.

This is the longest I ever remember his hair. (see photo)
Yes, a few people, maybe 5%, look great with layer cut hair. I had my hair layer cut many years ago, and it did not look good on me. I had trouble with waves showing up after getting out of bed in the morning. This would require wetting it down and trying to blow dry it straight. Usually I could not the waves out, no matter how much I tried.
My advice to others here: Grow all of your hair long. Don't make a mistake you will later regret. Layer cut hair requires much higher maintenance. At some point you will get tired of it and it will take a few years to grow it out.

Hello Everybody,
I remember, in 1981, I went to see Queen at the Montreal Forum, and I felt ripped off to see Freddy Mercury in a crewcut. I felt I flushed my money down the toilet, however the ambiance at the show made up for the loss. I was sitting next to two long-haired guys and we had a great time.....
The early eighties were a time when all my favorite rockers were cutting their hair short, while the metal scene was adopting the longer hair styles.
Have a nice day,
Geores in Montreal.
That is true. 80s rock had alot of short hair due to the influence of punk bands and new wave music. 80s hair metal was still good though lots of big hair and long hair and fringes!
This picture appears to be that of Edwin "Punky" Meadows of the 1970s glam rock band, "Angel"--and pre-dates the later 1980s "hair metal" bands "look".

Yes, the photo I posted was of "Punky" from the fabulous Rock Band "Angel" begun around 1978 and lasting into the 80's. People adored their powerful Longhair/Bangs look. And talent? Wow! (I assume this is one of their earliest photos.)
Here is another good photo of "Angel".
"Angel were a glam rock, heavy metal, and progressive rock band from Washington, DC, formed in the mid-70s."
"...cited at the band that invented hair metal"
"discovered by Kiss bass player Gene Simmons performing at a nightclub "
That's an amazing photo. It is proof of what man can achieve when he sets his mind to it (*).
Ed
(*) Okay, what woman can achieve when she sets her mind to it...
It is indeed incredible that someone could have such long hair. Whilst it's good as a conversation piece, I think having that length would be a nuisance. It would occupy your mind every single minute of the day and you'd be constantly worried about its maintenance, getting it snagged on things, tripping over it, etc.
The only greater nuisance you could endure (as far as I can imagine) is that practice of people having extremely long fingernails. That would be very, very annoying indeed, not to mention hideous. Imagine too if you broke one of them.
LukeB
Yes, it would be very impractical and problematic to care for su a ridiculous amount of hair and to avoid it getting snagged, caught on things etc. I think the women would wear all that hair tied up in a bun most of the time as there is no way you could walk around public with 10 feet of hair dragging around like that. It would be a disaster!
I would rather have a more 'human length' that i can show off and not have to hide it or secure it because it is so long that i'm afraid of it getting in the way and ripping etc. The costs clearly outweight the benefits at hair of that length.
True...i could just imagine what feeling anyone with hair that long would have if, just in case an accident happened ( hair caught on fire, cut, break, etc. ) all the years of hair growth would be of no use and he/she would have such depression for many years to come.
I remember when i was growing my hair and was only at 4 months growth and the barber cut more than half an inch off...only that itself made me depressed for an entire week!
...can do that! I wonder what God (or nature, whichever you prefer) had in mind?
That's exactly what i was thinking. I love seeing extraordinary and extreme things like this. It is definately pushing the boundaries of what humans are capable of. That is why i love world records and stuff. Infact, i just picked up an old copy of Guiness world records 1981 edition. I love to see what humans are capable of. The tallest guy was 8"11. That is just extreme.
I like to see strange things like that, also. We are so used to
the 'norm' that when we seee or read things that are really unusual, we find it almost impossible to believe.
But it is true in many cases!
Yes, very interesting stuff!
Indeed, man is unique among all of creation. We have the longest hair. We have the highest intellegence. We are the only living creatures that can RADICALLY change our environment to suit our needs. Even so, humans are fragile. Without clothing, most are unable to tolerate sustained temperatures of even 15 degrees C. Despite our fragility, we are the most successful life form on this planet.
Absalom
Unless you consider staying power success. Sharks have been around about 400,000,000 yrs., approximately 200 times longer than us.
And not just sharks, spiders too :)
btw- whether the destruction of an entire planet should be called a 'success' is doubtful imo.
...and then stops. Human's scalp hair is strange in that some people have hair
that remains relatively short and then falls out...
...while others--like the one in this photo--seem to go on and on.
Genetics, of course, determines most of that.
I wonder if EVER person on earth NEVER cut their hair: what STRANGE world it would be!
All colors, shapes, lengths--what a wild scene that would be!
