For me,
I had long hair from 1976-'77 until my Dad gave me a haircut. I next had it from 1982-'84 going from high school to early adulthood until I felt the pressure to please others and look a certain way. I did have a beard during the 1980's and '90's until I felt uneasy having it and felt the need to be short haired and shaven around 2000 on. Last year the urge to grow my hair finally took hold and although their have been moments where I've felt uncomfy inside my own skin, thinking others will judge me, believe it or not I've had no flack from others in public or in my family which I'm grateful for....
David(Who's becoming longhaired and feeling more emotionally open than ever!)
that's great david. it is nice to be one of the lucky ones who doesn't receive negative comments and such. seeing as you have had long hair before, you know what it takes to achieve and maintain it. the only thing left is to let time take care of the rest. i wish you the best of luck on your journey to long hair. keep us posted.=)
Thanks everyone for the wonderful feedback,
I truly enjoy my longhair, it really feels like a part of me now...
Yep, I agree that it sure can do that to ya!
For me, if you or anyone else is interested at all...
I went to a private school from K-12, so it was always short hair my whole life. Same hair style, too. Sometime around 6th grade I wanted my hair parted in the middle, and somewhat long. I was never allowed to, of course.
During the last month of school in 12th grade I had my last "short" haircut. From then on I only had a few trims, mostly during the awkard phase to prevent the mullet in the back.
And, well, since then I've pretty much been the happiest ever--I have the long hair that I've, well, longed for! And it feels like it's a part of me, or my personality. And to complement that, I have pretty much everything else that I've wanted. A really cool Ford Ranger, an apartment, alot of CDs and too many electric guitars!
Hey dude, look THE WAY YOU WANT TO LOOK! I'm rooting for you!!
Hey David,
Thanks for sharing your hair history over the years.
It is clear that you were born a long hair .ie you have longed(bad pun) for longhair all your life.
Do what you want, dress how you want, grow your hair etc but don't be so concerned with what others think about you. It is YOUR life and you want to maximise utility so do what makes you most happy and gives you a sense of complete fullness inside you. Once you realise that other people are insignificant and you don't care what they think about you. I wish you all the best.
When we are children we have no choice but to comply with parents, and usually parents are the sort of folk you would want to get along with. But when you get to be a teen, it is important to learn to run your own life, and one is resentful if made to cut ones hair at this time. Some men are simply long hairs, like some men are left handed. Many young men have no interest in growing their hair, but far more than you might think would like nothing better if they were given permission by a parent or a mate, in the form of an offer to help manage longer hair.
Previous times were far more oppressive. I was 60 years old before I actually felt freedom to express myself with my hair. Though the path has not always been easy in breaking through, I have never felt more comfort in my long hair skin than now.
Do not cut if you are a Wizard, or aspire to be.
