This is my hair wet... and I am wearing my latest tie dye attempt... Is the color saturation optimum? or can I do better? I really dont know how much procion MX dyes to mix with water when tye dying because one site said to use 4 teaspoon per cup and I looked on my measuring spoon, and that is one big spoon! So I ended up using about 1/2 teaspoon of dye for about 100 cc of water. I dont know if this is enough or do I need to use more?
Hair looks good man, keep on growing : )
Can't answer your questions about tie dye, but I must say your shirt looks great, as does your hair.
Cheers,
Jeremy
Great Photo, Tai Fui. The tie dye looks very nice indeed. It gives the wearer a very vibrant, pleasant look :)
Your hair looks noticeably longer since last time. It is getting there , hang in there man. How long now?
My last haircut was on 8/1/2005 and there will be no future haircuts. I did that one because I was still in the military...
Hi Tai Fu, your second shirt came out reasonably good, and you have discovered that dirrerent colours have different intensity to them. As the photo shows, yellow or any colour containing yellow (orange or green) will look pale. Yellow is the weakest of the colours so you need to use more. Red, purple, and blue shades are strong, so you use less than for yellow.
For VIVID colours try this:
Into 100 ml of water use:
3 level teaspoons for YELLOW.
2 1/2 level teaspoons for LIGHT GREEN and LIGHT ORANGE shades, since they contain mostly yellow.
2 level teaspoons for DARKER GREEN and DARKER ORANGE shades.
1 3/4 level teaspoons for RED, PURPLE, and DEEP BLUE shades.
2 level teaspoons for TURQUOISE for best results. (Turquoise is a light blue shade. A little extra here will result in a more vivid colour.)
The above recipes should give you VIVID colours. You may want to experiment on scraps of cloth instead of a shirt to fine tune things to suit your needs. Also you should use 100% cotton for best results. Procyon dyes will NOT set in synthetic fabrics.

Thanks for the tips... I already ordered the dyes from prochem because I didnt think I have enough for experimenting... I should have ordered more yellow... on some sites it said to use more for turquoise because it is lighter in weight... is that true? I got sun yellow, fuchia, and turquoise from prochem in 2 oz sizes... how many shirts do u think I can do from that? Are you sure I should be putting 2 level teaspoon of dyes into 100ml of water? that seems a lot... not even sure if the thing will dissolve... or do you mean the 1/2 teaspoon spoon on the measuring spoon?

I would highly recommend buying ready made colours instead of mixing your own. Mixing fuchsia with yellow gives dull rusty oranges. Mixing yellow and turquoise makes excellent greens. Mixing fuchsia and turquoise makes good purples.
Your starter kit should have: fuchsia, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, and purple.
In 100ml of water try this:
fuchsia 3/4 tsp
orange 1 tsp
yellow 1 1/2 tsp (yes, it will dissolve.)
green 1 tsp
turquoise 1 tsp
purple 1 tsp
You will be able to do a lot of shirts with your starter kit, but I don't know how many.
