After 4 years or so of growing my hair and only getting trims every know and then i decided to chop it all off..I think it suits me with short hair but ill let you guys decide..
Advice to anyone new growing there hair DO NOT get under cuts like i did. I found it very hard to grow the short hair underneth back out looked real scruffy anyway im now a short haired and no longer a long haird lol.. btw my nickname at work was Shaggy
Before...
Now... (never mind the date it says was cut today 12 March 06)
I'm not gonna lie to you - I prefer the longer hair.
Now you just look like every other Joe Nobody you see in the street.
IMO, this kind of contrast lets you see just why long hair on males separates them out from the crowd. People take a second glance when they see a dude with a long, flowing mane.
A mate of mine at school had an undercut as well, but he gradually grew the back and sides out and now his hair is roughly mid-back.
Oh well, another one bites the dust I suppose.
That's good advice Luke and yes can you let it all grow back gradually and it's a shame when people get drastic. But as I said it's their personal choice and all we can do is encouage them here and give good advice to people that are growing it long or maintaining it. After all I'm still here after 7/8 years and you don't hear me running down to the nearest barbers shop!!!

Hi Eddie,
Well you did have a great looking hair there and okay it's your hair and you with as you like. It's not really for us decide if it's better longer or shorter or you. At the end of the day it's a personal thing if you happy with it them fine. Of course there have been people that post here and cut their hair and have regretted it and started over.
The advise here is always remember the two week rule. Just because you had an undercut does not have mean't you have to cut it all off that's for sure.
But good luck in all that you do and keep in touch.

Well it was fun and a challenge when i first started growing it... so hey who knows i might leave it awhile maybe until summer has been and gone then regrow... this time no under cuts lol.. But my dad had long hair growing up and throw his younger years.. and the music we listen too both of these were kind of influences to growing my hair... so i grew it had it long for 4 to 5 years and decided for a change.. the way i see it, it wasnt a change for the good or for the bad people have had mixed opinions so far but most say it looks better short.. Another thing was i never really had my hair loose while out and about always wore a hat with my hair tucked up.. even when at home used to put it up in a ponytail/bun type thing.. But anyway i found out my hair grows quickly so it wouldnt take to long to get back to that length.. anyway logging off now..il still stay active on the board
You look fine either way, but I personally think it looks better long.
But isn't it nice, that first time in the shower after having a significant amount cut off, and it doesn't tangle... at all? EVER?
You don't have to bother much with hair that length, and no one's going to give you a hard time. There are advantages to not being longhaired, and you can enjoy them once more.
I don't think we can possibly be the ones to decide for you. You made your choice and went with it.
All is not lost however. Hair can be grown long again if desired.
The lighting isn't so good in the short cut pic. It looks all right from what I can see. A bit different to the usual short style. The long hair looks really cool.
Have a good think about the hair. When it starts to look scruffy, consider growing it out again, or trying something new. I find with short hair it's easy to get stuck with the same style, partly because barbers / hairdressers tend not to listen.
I think most people can do either short or long hair, as long as they have a style that suits them. Personally, I think if you want to wear your hair short, a cut with less volume on the top would look really good on you.
And I'm also a fan of the hair style above (pic taken from the Prada fall 2006 show). But I like long hair best of all!
xxxooo,

What a shame. You had beautiful shoulder length hair and you decided to cut it off. You looked really beautiful with long hair, dude. IMO, you look a ton better with longer hair. You just look to normal with short hair, like every Bob and James walking down the street.
I see you are a big Iron Maiden fan. I also enjoy their music.
I do hope you reconsider and start growing again. If you didn't trim as often your hair would be alot longer for 4 years!
Good luck.
Just because this is a longhair board, don't expect me to biased and say everyone looks better with long hair; not everyone does, frankly, IMHO. But you - you looked a billion times better, dude. I'm not insulting you or anything, just saying. With the hair, you looked like anything from a skater punk to a rocker to a guy girls dream of and write about in their diaries. It's your decision what hair length you go for, and if you like the shorter length more, more power to you - but what a shame.
I'm going to have to go against the grain here and tell you that the shorter look is a much better choice for you. It shows off your facial features and makes you look older and more mature. I think it's a good choice for you. Congratulations on going with your conscience and not listening to others. As for the board members who don't understand the desire or need for shorter, more managable hair in warmer temps, they haven't lived in the ultra high humidity of Virginia.
Cheers mate.. but i never cut because i didnt like it long just wanted a a change i guess.. maybe ill grow it back out after summer.. which living in London isnt really much of one.. Infact if it was a nice warm country then id keep it long for sure.. its just in the cold windy weather long hair gets in the way and makes ya look silly with the red cold cheeks and nose lol
I've also experienced the humidity of Va myself as I have friends that live over there. Now being a native of this island this side of the pond. Okay some of our previous summers have been disappointing shall we say but I can vouch when it does get hot it can unbearable in London as we dod suffer from very high humidity. You should try using the undeground instead, that's like an oven!!!
Okay we're exacty a temperate place and we do have variations of weather and temperatures. Well imagine me this weekend walking to catch a train to London with hair blowing about and red cheeks and nose and I still cope with it. But the hair keeps my head and my ears warm.
So come and visit the UK and again and sample of little climate here

The summer of 2004 I was in London in August.
It was so absurdly hot, I took a shower before going to bed and soon I was drenched in sweat again. Totally drenched again come morning...
The warmth was a bit too much for me, but I liked the trip anyway :)
Yes your right and this an open forum and there always two points of view and like I said it's a personal choice. I understand the desires and wanting be more manageable and cooler in warmer times of the year. I worked in Greece for a couple of summers and it gets very humid there and I kept my hair tied back and wasn't an issue and got used to it.

Hi Eddie.Sorry to see that you felt the need to cut your hair short but like others noted its really up to you how you want to present yourself in public.I myself have had my hair long more than half my life at different lengths and even permed at one time. My hair was last short when I was in high school as I grew it out after graduating and haven't looked back. As difficult as it can be to maintain long hair I just couldn't bring myself to cut it short as it would be like loosing a part of my personality.Regardless I thought your longish hair was outstanding on you with your overall facial features. So best of luck should you decide to regrow it and do keep in touch with the board.Mark
hi eddie,
i personally think that the long hair suits u very well too but the most important thing is that YOU feel good with your hair ...
so i think it's the right decision to cut it (i would have suggested u the 14-day-rule but maybe u have thought about it for a longer time) ...
and at least the good thing in hair is: it can be always re-grown :)
btw: great posters in the background - i am also a maiden fan ...
greez,

I'd have to agree with what most everyone else said. If you like it, then that's the bottom line. Keep it that way.
But if your hair was past your shoulders, you must've liked it for awhile, and had the patience to grow it that long. Maybe you'll change your mind and grow it back.
Because like John and 80s_Metal said, now you look like every other Joe you see. I don't intend to be mean or anything, but I'm just being honest. Too many guys these days have above-shoulder length hair, and even worse, they all have the same cut. Imo, they look like clones. That's part of the reason I come here though, to see fellow guys who have and enjoy long hair, for multiple reasons, but also to just not look like everyone else!
I'm sure you can style it differently, or grow it back out though. Then it might look alright.
