I don't know about you guys, but my hair doesn't look good wet. It looks stringy and very unkempt. Even when it's first dried it doesn't look good till I have a chance to first finger comb it and then usually brush it. Until I've done this, it looks frizzy.
Because of this, I always shower in the early evening giving my hair a chance to air dry before I go to bed. I find if it is even damp when I go to bed and not detangled properly, I'll wake up with a mess of tangles.
This method works well but there are times, and these times will be more frequent as summer approaches, when I'll have to shower before going out. I never use a blowdryer and am loathe to ever do so. Do you guys have any methods other than blow drying to solve this problem? I think I'd rather just go out with it wet rather than use a blowdryer. I never use gel anymore but I suppose that might make the wet hair look better.
My SiteHi Jason.
I also have a dislike for hair that is in the 'drying' phase, as it looks (as you said, stringy and unkempt.)
I've taken to wearing my hair combed and tied up wet, and then taking it out later on in the day. My aviator photo was taken after I did this. The resulting effect is neat, straight hair that looks very clean.
Of course, there's also a chance of getting slightly 'kinked-up' hair in the back (due to the hair tie), but that can be smoothed out.
The alternative to this is to use conditioner after washing. I use it once a week, and find that leaving my hair to simply air dry is more bearable than just using shampoo.
By the way, your site pictures are fantastic!
Hi Luke,
Thanks for your reply. I've never tried tying it up while still wet but that sounds like a good idea worth trying. I try to avoid brushing my hair while wet because of the potential damage caused by it but I'm sure I could get it back in a tail without having to brush much.
You only use conditioner once per week? I find it helps to use it every wash. In fact I've recently tried doing a CWC - conditioner, wash, conditioner and it worked pretty well.
Thanks about my site...
Jason
Do you just apply conditioner, wash it out with water, and then apply it again? I've heard people talking about applying conditioner, then shampooing the scalp (before rinsing the conditioner), then rinsing and applying conditioner again. What would you say?
I condition, rinse it out, then shampoo, rinse it out and condition one more time, rinse it out.
When I wash my hair in the morning I just leave home with it wet.
When it's dried I'll fingercomb it to get rid of the stringyness.
This is the exact same thing that happens to me as well... If I don't comb it as soon as it's dry the hair is all clumped together and "stringy and unkempt" as you said. Like you I never use a blowdryer. I usually just leave it anyway, because most people don't care if hair looks unkempt on a guy... but on a girl it's much more unusual.. you know what i mean? So i just wait until I get home and brush it, or I sometimes bring a comb with me, and when i get a break I'll just take a few minutes to comb it and make it look a little better.

My hair clumps together as well and gets very wavy and knotted so I must brush a few times through out drying or else it turns out a mess.
I don't have an answer, just wanted to say that your hair is really starting to take shape now! It is complimented by the beard.
I have an Aquis towel, which helps cut down on the drying time, but it's not that much better than a cotton towel (NO! FABRIC! SOFTENER! EVER!!!!!). Its main virtue is that it is lighter and smaller than a regular towel. I wrap my hair up turban style with it and wait a few minutes. Then I take it off, flick my hair (head bang, really) once and wrap it back up. Wait a little bit and then repeat.I blot my hair with the towel and then let it air dry or blow dry it if I don't have time.
Whatever the evils of blow drying are, my hair remains blissfuly unaware. I went through a period where I would only air dry my hair, but since I've started blow drying again, I haven't noticed a difference in my hair at all. Except that blow drying gives me more volume.
If you want to "refresh" your hair in between washings, you can try spraying it with various things. Shu Uemura Depsea Water is nice (I mostly use it on my face, though) and Aveda makes a reviving mist. I also like rose water, but I don't know if you guys would be into that. Although the ancient Greeks and Romans used roses for men's perfume.
