I've noticed where i live at that it is very common for black teenage boys to wear two ponytails. Some wear them high up or medium or low. But its kind of wierd, but i think its kind of cool. Also, it seems they wear the ponytail holders with the two balls connected to them. Can't imagine white guys doing this. But have you guys seen this.
yeah. alot of us do it after we take our hair out of braids for a while and we're waiting to get the braids redone. although i don't think i've ever seen anybody wearing the bands with the balls :s lol
And he's wearing the kind with balls!
The ponytail holder with the two plastic balls screams "2nd grade girls playing double dutch in the 80's" to me, but I guess Snoop can make anything thug.

Personally i can't stand his music and his huge ego to go with it , but that's another thing altogether.
How long is his hair?
Some of my friends say waist length. His hair is always concealed by braids, buns etc so can never tell his length?

i thought black people could only grow afros because their hair was so thick and curly.
Many black people get their hair 'chemically treated' and straigtened, therefore they are able to braid and it looks the same as straight hair.
some of us (african americans) are also mixed with native american, arab, or caucasian blood. there's a 25% chance that we take on genetic features of the other races rather than our own--for example, our hair.
i am mixed with all of these and my hair is actually quite curly and big much like Tracee Ellis' hair, although my curls are about half the size of hers and my hair is semi-heavy. i could pick it out and make it into an afro but my hair won't stand up much on the top--it'll just get bushy on the sides lol. however if i brush my hair, i can easily make it nice and flowy like my native american ancestors and straight (to some degree).
A picture of Tracee Ellis RossI'm fairly mixed as well - African, Latin, European (Caucasian, I suppose it would be) and some Carib or Amerindian. My hair is similar to Tracee Ellis'. But I somehow doubt Snoop Dogg has hair like any of these people. Many Africans where I come from have extremely kinky hair, yet they still make thick braids and braided pigtails. Each braid is sort of ball-shaped. It's merely a special way to restrain that kind of hair, and the most they do to "straighten" their hair is perhaps use a little gel to help grip and smooth out the hair while braiding it.
hehe it's like that here in my state too. but it's mostly people from west africa that have the really kinky hair because they haven't been mixed as much. the people from north and east africa tend to have much more tamable (if not straight) hair--especially Somalis, and Egyptians. but once again, just like some african americans they don't always resemble the stereotyped "black" person although they can also have big hair.

Hmm...that's interesting. I always pictured Egyptians with all three kinds of hair at the same time as a kid, and it never struck me at the time how weird that was, lol. But then again, I thought African Rastafarians were a different kind of African born with dreadlocks, lol. The naivete of youth rules!
I remember reading that Egyptian women would put on curly wigs during some ceremonies. Shows the godliness of curly hair, lol. ;P
Thanks for the pics, particularly the Somali lady. I keep comparing my hair to so many people's own, but she definitely has hair almost exactly like mine. It'd be cool to see how it'd look at waist-length.:D
I suppose this all came about over time because of temperature differences in where the different people were living, and some assorted mixing along the way.

i'm not entirely sure, but i doubt dreadlocks were popular. males who wear their hair long are more popular in west africa when their wear Nigerian braids (cornrows). i know there are east africans who wear dreads (well not really dreads lol but their hair is long and heavy and clumps together sometimes lol)but i don't think it was solely the egyptians

and you were right. their hair texture is due to the area and and mixing that went on in these areas. it's not unusual to find many dark-skinned asians (especially indians and malaysians) with a "black person's face" but non-kinky hair lol
I have seen it just look at snoop dog.
This isn't meant to start any racism war or anything, but I've noticed that the African longhaired male population, particularly where I live (Dominica, in the Caribbean) often adopts hairstyles that would be considered feminine here in the States. I'm talking dreads ponytailed very high or bunned, high ponytails in general, stylish cornrows, pigtails above the ears, ponytails held with thick scrunchies of varying colors and the like. I think it's really cool and I would never call one of those guys feminine. They've got the right idea - wear what you want and screw what anyone else thinks.
The balls thing - I believe I've seen that, but I can't be certain. Wouldn't be a humongous surprise to me, really.
I think some of it may come from a general poverty in the island. Hair stuff can be expensive, and thus it's easiest to just borrow what your girlfriend or mom or whoever already has. I myself used to use my mom's scrunchy when I wanted a ponytail before I got my own ties.
Hair is often seen as an expression of masculinity and "badness" in my island, almost the polar opposite of the general population in the U.S. I don't think anyone really cares too much what hairstyle you have. The majority of young guys grow out their hair right after high school almost as a sort of ritual. Some keep it, particularly those with dreads, while others eventually cut it off for work, but it's nice to see long hair being such a popular thing somewhere.
I saw a black guy with a hip-length ponytail last December. It looked very suave. A lot of dutch blacks have awkward stage hair.
