I have had my lower-back-length hair for about 4 years now and i am having a hell of a time with frizz and dryness. I have never really tried to do anything with it, just let it grow.
When i shower(every day) i use plenty of shampoo and conditioner, air dry for a 1-2 hours, then go to bed. When i wake up, the hair at the base of my head if EXTREMELY dry. I would love for that dry hair to have the same texture as the rest of my head.
What if the prpoer procedure for long hair care statring with the shower?...
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Clayton
You seem to wash with shampoo way too often. I wash once a week, then conditioner and it's healthy and not as dry.
I have the equivalent of 5 years in lenght, I mostly recently (2-3 years ago) began to treat it more nicely and now I'm contemplating buying more expensive shampoo and conditioner, because I'm not done growing and I do like my hair to be healthy looking and silky.

Hi Clayton,
I have had the same problem, too. What works for me is to shampoo infrequently - twice a week at the most. When I do shampoo, I use only enough to barely form lather when I work it in.
Apply conditioner mostly at the ends of your hair, let sit for a few minutes and rinse with cold water.
Pat dry very gently with a towel.
Dab in few drops of Jojoba oil towards the ends after drying.
This has worked very well for me, hopefully it will for you, too.

I used to have the same problems(and my hair is much shorter)...i started shampooing only once a week, with much less shampoo...and i condition atleast 2-3 times a weak with alot of conditioner, i leave it on my hair for about 3-5 minutes and rinse it. When i come out of the shower i barely dry with a towel as gently as i can and i let the rest air dry on it's own, i wait 3 hours and go to sleep.
This has helped my frizzyness completely disappear(since i have quite thick hair).
Good Luck

Hi Clayton,
I second the other comments advising to shampoo way less often. If frizziness gets out of hands, you can try any hair gel that mainly consists of dimethicone plus cyclomethicone (such as Frizz-Ease, but there are others). You also can try to use pommade on the driest parts of the hair.
Good to see that your hair is growing long forever.
I wish you peace & happiness,
