Hi guys my name's Ryan...i've posted here infrequently but haven't really had a chance to post my first update pic.
Well here's the first update pic at 6 months at a friend's party...perhaps not the best picture to show my growth but a picture nonetheless.
My goal is 12 months growth (i'm a law student and i don't think i could get away with any longer in my desired career path).
Ryan
Great progress so far, Ryan.
Looks like you have a nice reddish color.
Best of luck in reaching your goal - and maybe more...
- Oren
Thankyou Oren
i have been eagerly reading your update posts over the last year or so and they are quite astounding: your hair is what short-tooths like me strive for. I say 12 months is my goal but before that it was 6 months, i honestly think the longer it gets i won't let it stop growing i love it that much.
Yes i would also like to see more red heads and people with reddish hair grow it longer...a sight indeed.
Ryan
p.s. Oren i wish to become a registered member how do i do this? is it ok if you give me an avatar with this picture?http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/9315/pict13498wc.jpg

[ About This Directory ]Hi Ryan,
Your hair looks superb for 6 months.
I can assure you my hair never looked that good when it was that length. My hair was all afroish and puffy and i had to wear a hat and slick it back. It looks like you are one of the few lucky ones who don't get an 'awkward stage'. Long hair suits your face perfectly and you have a flawless hair texture. Nice and thick hair and the orange colour looks great.
With quality hair like that i would be inclined to grow it a little longer than a year. Cheers mate.
Hey 80's thanks for the kind words mate
i am one of those people on the board that have always innately desired long-hair but due to factors out of their control (e.g. for me, catholic school, parents, peer pressure etc) have never grown it out. I desperately want to grow it as long as i can but i fear, living in the conservative society we live in today, i will be overlooked for jobs, especially in the ultra-conservative law profession that i am pursuing (i am a law-student at macquarie university).
Hahahah, akward stage...i have massive akward stages, absolutely massive which threaten the existence of my hair daily. My hair is naturally curly and the only way i can get it 'straight'(er) is by gelling and combing it back then brushing it forward (a process which takes around an hour each day).
Withought the help of this board and the support it has shown towards other members i would have never been able to get to 6 months.
Thankyou
Ryan
Re: your pic...
...straight from 1985 baby!
No, it's a good look, with all the pseudo 80's stuff going on right now, it's nice to see a dinkum-di pair of real 80's glasses.
On to more serious things...
First off Macquarie uni is a great Uni, and I have friends who travel from Bondi to get there, so it must be good! Personally I went there in 2000 for a Mellincollin concert in your caffeteria!
How does this specifically relate to you? Well, my impressions from the few times I have come to your uni, is that it is a really laid-back environment. Seriously, you're not in the heart of the city like me (Usyd) but in the heart of rolling green hills and valleys, what place could be more condusive to long hair than that!
As to your socio-cultural background, I can fully appreciate that, but in all honesty it is time to do something for yourself. From your posts here I can tell that you sincerely want to have long hair. So forget your disciplined upbringing in this one area (i.e. hair growth), this is a time for you to do what you want in terms of your personal appearance.
I'm sure that at the end of the day your parents will still be proud that their son is studying to be a lawyer.
As for the conservatism of your future profession, well I can see where you are coming from, but times are changing, men in the CBD are beginning to sport more non-conservative hairstyles, (including the mullet!).
Now I understand though that you want LONG hair, not longish hair. Admit it mate, 1 year isn't going to cut it for you (HA! a pun). That said, I DO think it is wise for you to look at hair growth as a process, and setting 6-month goals may be the best way for you to achieve what YOU want.
Seriously, is it going to be easier to grow your hair out as a lawyer in your 40's or 50's? No it's not. I'd say that your optimal time to grow your hair would be now/in your 20's, even in your early 30's and then 60's and beyond. But why wait? Besides you already have 6 months growth.
I have friends studying law who have Long hair.
I have seen lawyers in America with ponytails. These men often look more neat and onservative than their 'awkward hair' counterparts in law!! e.g. look at Michale Jackson's defence lawyer. He looked alright, but not 'conservative' by any means. Times are changing.
Yet I also realise that you may have to 'fit in' at least initially once you've graduated. But unless that is tommorow, I don't see why you can't grow your hair out while you study, and then see how it works out (and looks of course!) once you've graduated.
REMEMBER: YOU CAN ALWAYS TUCK A PONYTAIL UNDER YOUR SHIRT/COLAR ONCE IT'S LONG ENOUGH.
All the best, and don't let your longhair dream remain a dream. I always say a man should grow their hair out at least once in their lifetime.
You aren't just any man though, you actually WANT this yourself. In light of that, I strongly reccomend that you grow your hair.
P.S. I'm going to find you a picture now, of what long hair can look like when it is long enough and pulled back. i.e and still look 'conservative'.
P.P.S. Also don't forget that you might have to wear a wig if in court, in which case hair length doesn't really matter!
hahahaha thanks heaps Deano
i totally agree with what you're saying and i can see that stereotypes are gradually being destroyed for more liberal trends.I especially like the pic of ol' Heath lol, when i pony-tail my hair it looks a little baby of what the mother is.
6 month goals seems very fine to me ;p
cheers
Ryan
There's a notable lawyer here in the Atlanta area who wears a long braid down to the small of his back. He was in the news in the past year, having been hired by a high profile client. The moral is, if you become a really good lawyer, you can grow your hair as long as you like.
Hi Ryan,
don't let ANYONE tell you that long hair is not for male professionals - that's a lot of BS. What counts is that you enjoy and excel in what you are doing - success will always follow you (and be a part of you) just like your waist-long pony tail ;-)
Happy growth, Ryan, and keep it up!
Looking forward to your 2008 update...
Hans-Uwe
A slight aside, is the exact colour match of your t-shirt and sunglasses rims intentional?
lol, kinda...i suppose it just turned out that way
