Riiiightt.. here come the questions..
I've just hit the 14 month stage from a buzz cut and can eaaasily tie it back now.
Been considering getting thin dreads for a while now..
i know that there are a lot of misconceptions about them.. e.g. they are dirty.. i know that doesnt have to be true as long as you use a non residue shampoo..
i just wondered if anyone knows anything about taking them out.. is it possible to un-matt them without damaging the hair too much? or is it really a one-way style?
And if theres any women browsing.. clean dreads ok? or a big turnoff?
(i am white but have very thick, curly dark brown hair)
cheeeers
you can't "undo" dreads...you get them done and grow them or you get them done and cut them. the bees-wax holds your hair tightly together until it's permanently stuck that way...if you decide you don't want them then you should wash your hair within 24 hours of getting them done...if not you're stuck with them until you cut your hair
Yeah, you can. It's a painstaking process that takes hours, but they CAN be undone. I would assume it's fairly damaging work, uncoiling and unsticking all the hair like that, but people have done it. I'm not sure whether this is only possible for relatively new dreads or if older dreads can be taken out as well.
i've seen that too. but only with people who have new dreads. the long ones are just stuck together =/ i would never do that to my hair lol
I (still) know a girl who had dreads for all the time I'd known her and one day showed up with straight hair. She'd spent hours picking them apart, but she did it. It's possible.
You must have fast-growing hair. Check out wikipedia and elsewhere. There's lots of info on the net. Being white shouldn't be an issue as dreadlocks have been around in all human societies for thousands of years.

I guess a longhair with dreads is gonna find it even harder to get employment :(
anyone had any experiences with that?
hey guy ive got a HND in Internet Development technologies and cant find a job anyway so what difference will dreads make they should'nt really make any if you tie them back in a ponytail they look neat and even quite fresh new and proffesional in a suit, if all else fails just put your religeon down as rastafarian this they won;t be able to argure with and anyway we are supposed to live in a society that where differences are celebrated and if ur turned down on a job because u have long hair or dreadlocks then chances are its a shite place to work and the manager is totally past his sell by date...

I found this pic and that is my aim. any opinions?
Pic looks great but with dreads I think it is hard to aim for a specific look other than dread size, Mother Nature takes over.
I was looking into dreads a while back (in lieu of cutting) and found a great resource:
http://www.dreadheadhq.com/
They sell a dreadhead kit designed for white hair, and have a before-and-after gallery.
